Patti Lupone having a cameo as a woman obsessed with tchotchkes is insane and I love it
    Kate was so relatable
This was suitably cheesy for the genre
I wish the George Michael songs were more organic but now he just needs a legit jukebox musical
I feel like people are going to be mad that about the white immigrant story but it didn't bug me

    edit:
holy shit just realized George Michael had to change his very Greek name to George Michael to succeed in the music industry so he and Kate had something else in common

So Feig made his Lifetime movie, now he made his Hallmark movie, which basic cable channel formula will he elevate next?

I do feel bad for her and everyone involved that people can't just like have fun and roll with things, I didn't get it from the trailer so I'm not sure if I'm dumb or people have too much time on their hands or both haha

I mean the song itself spoils it, lol.

I’m cracking up. I asked my mom if she had heard about the new Christmas movie with Emilia and Emma and she hadn’t, so I wanted to tell her about the hoopla without revealing anything, and as soon as I told her the title she went, “Somebody gets a heart transplant, right?”

I didn’t think this was bad.. just a fun Christmas movie. People are too harsh these days and just want to make fun of everything

Yeah I was never not gonna like this. A gentleman’s 7. Emilia Clarke is the most effortlessly charming person on the planet.

if the twist is what i thought it was halfway through the trailer idk if they can get mad at anyone spoiling it other than their marketing department...

It’s a ridiculously obvious twist if you’ve ever seen a movie before.

the movie could have just been this for 90 minutes, Henry's complete inability to sing All I Want For Christmas Is You and Jingle Bell Rock is incredible

I really enjoyed this charming little film. Funny in the right ways; cute in the right ways; dumb in the right ways. The whole immigrant angle didn't fit, & Kate outing her sister was yikes, but otherwise dug it.

I think my favorite thing about Emma Thompson’s writing is how she gives all these small characters (the cops, her friend, etc) just a little extra to make them feel more real and lived in.

Yeah it was lame that like a week after outing her sister they were a big happy family

I’m shocked that that’s a storyline in such a fluffy and silly and warm story. Reminds me of Booksmart a bit.

I think, if it'd been a big part of the story, it wouldn't have felt as yikes. Like, if I remember right, there was a 2-week time jump before showing the happy family, so who knows what that process looked like off screen. And, generally, I don't feel like I need to see everything in detail. But, with how tacked on & glossed over it was, it kinda felt like the filmmakers didn't quite get how deep & personal an offense that would be in real life. They could've had that same exact scene w/out that wrinkle.

Both that & the anti-immigrant elements are the kinda things that have too much weight to be brought up as brief asides in a charming Christmas flick about someone learning how to live again. Thankfully, both were also small enough to likely not keep me from revisiting at a future Christmas.

this..... did not work for me lmao. felt like a lot of potentially winning pieces (anyone else catch fleabag vibes from this or just me?) but it really felt like it was trying to be too many things and never succeeding at all of them.

also just want to point out that its not even the first romcom with a [REDACTED] twist to be based off of an 80s pop song:

For a split second I thought they were just referring to Heder as Napoleon Dynamite and I laughed out loud.
