Definitely her best album since Born This Way. I don't like Die With A Smile as the last song though. I feel like it was definitely tacked on last minute. Blade of Grass sounds like the natural end of the album to me.
Yeah, this is still growing on me, but it’s the most I’ve enjoyed anything of hers since Fame/Fame Monster. Probably the only “skip” for me is Zombieboy, but that’s cause I find those kind of chant melodies absolutely unbearable in anything. Even then, the rest of the song almost saves it.
I'm the opposite on this. I was upset when i saw that Die With a Smile was gonna be on the album until i heard it in the context. I do agree Blade of Grass could've been the closer, but it's a nice bonus having Die With a Smile on vinyl without having to pay for that 7" separately. There's also no other place on the track listing that DWAS could've fit otherwise.
I just feel like its more of a Bruno Mars song anyway. The whole album is no features, then right at the end you get smacked with Bruno. Would have been great for his album though.
Yeah I popped in here to say basically the same thing. Die With A Smile not only feels more like a Bruno song, but also doesnt fit the vibe of the rest of the album. 13 industrial synth pop songs and then this retro soul rock song pops up. It feels so out of place and just thrown on the end to help boost first week numbers. Aside from that this feels like her best and most coherent album since Born This Way.
Die with a Smile is an insanely successful track. Completely understand why it’s on here even though I think it’s butt and also sticks out like a sore thumb on this album. Very impressed overall though. Can’t stop listening to it. Outside of the Fart with a Smile criticism I think the album loses a little bit of steam at points in the back end but it’s still really solid.
i wonder if die with a smile was just such a huge hit that they decided to throw it on the tail of the album because yeah it doesn't really fit the vibe. still good but feels tacked on for sure. love this album, think its her best and most consistent, the bonus tracks go hard as hell, cant wait for the tour
I know others have said it already but wow yea How Bad Do U Want Me really is a Lady Gaga take on a Taylor Swift song, in the best way lol
And yea really weird that Die With a Smile is on here outside of obviously because it's a smash hit song she's had recently. It's actually the first time I've fully listened to it, it's fine but not really doing anything special. Really fun album though, if I had to pick yea the last 3 songs are the weakest on it but they're not bad and Blade of Grass seems positioned as a decent closer.
It's surely what happened. She was adamant on it being a standalone single when it came out, then it suddenly became such a big hit and... here we are. It's a good thing on the other hand because Disease, which came out a bit earlier iirc, didn't do the numbers they were probably expecting and she was coming out of the Joker 2 mess so Die With A Smile accidentally set her actual return and the album campaign back on track success wise.
Funny update: I’ve been debating since the release about settling for the Grey vinyl/cover shirt combo. However, the total cost, including shipping, was $93, which was a bit steep for me. On Wednesday, I went back to her website and noticed that the Grey vinyl was sold out. However, the 180g (non-signed) version was available again. So, I decided to get that version with the cover shirt for the same $93. Of course, I would have preferred a signed version, but I’m happy with the version I ultimately got.
If the prices I've seen for some Europe dates are the same for Paris... that's like almost thrice what I remember paying in GA for the Chromatica Ball. I know 2020 is a long time ago now but doubt I can afford this, sadly
