Frustrating song because there is stuff I definitely like about it. Agree about the key change, that moment should have been built up to a bit more.

It does create quite a bit of dissonance that she made that song with him, and performed it live in the manner they did, and had richardson direct the video, and then became a symbol of solidarity with survivors.

 

Yeah it's a weird contrast for sure... honestly though R. Kelly's part isn't really that integral to the song for me, Gaga kills it on that song and it's possibly my favorite track by her almost entirely because of her alone.

 

Yeah I don't think anybody really thinks about that song for the R Kelly part. It's just part of the song and he thankfully does a good job with his part, but the focus is Gaga and the production. For me at least.

Maybe I'm the ignorant one lol, but I just don't know a single Springsteen track that even remotely resembles Perfect Illusion in any way tbh. But I'm not a HUGE Springsteen diehard or anything.
