I think I just wasn't in the right space for Panorama when it came out. When Vancouver came out I was in high school, obsessively devouring new music and going to shows constantly, and by the time Panorama came out I had graduated from grad school, moved three cities, was working full time and not going to shows as often. I probably only listened to Panorama a couple of times before this week, I remember it feeling slow or quiet or something but honestly I'm listening now and it rips! I definitely don't think it's any worse than their earlier albums, I just didn't give it much of a chance I suppose. Just a thought on the vocal mixing, especially listening on headphones, my impression is that they were really enamored with the guitars, because they sound great in these recordings. In the loudest/heaviest parts they really shine, but the vocals come down in the mix maybe a bit too much for a band whose lyrics and vocal performances really set them apart.
The only issue I have with Panorama is that my copy of the LP is fuckin pringle shaped (or whatever the funky name for that is).
just really paid attention to the lyrics of man with hands and ankles bound for the first time…Jordans writing is absolutely insane.
Maybe it's because most folks in here seem to be waiting for the release date but I can't overstate how excellent this documentary series is. It's pretty raw insight into the minds of each member about themselves, La Dispute, the bands past/future, and then they dive into the recording of each song. Will instantly be appreciated by any long time fan.
Yeah, I've been skipping the last few batches of songs but I've been loving the videos. It's making me even more excited to listen to the record.
excited to finally be able to give one of my favorite bands of all time the full attention they deserve. this has been eating at me forever. i have absolutely hated the rollout haha.
Fantastic first listen, so many interesting ideas lyrically and the way they all weave together is as impressive as always. I feel blessed to have another La Dispute album to sink hours into.
I really liked the incremental release because, as they said in their rationale for doing it, it allowed me to spend a lot of time with each section and I feel like I really know all the songs now. This album would feel overwhelming if the first time I was hearing it all at once and then digging into 14 songs.
Outside of just a few songs, I have been actively avoiding all the singles that have been out there. Looking forward to diving into this tomorrow.
managed to avoid all the singles entirely, super stoked. running the rest of the discog all day in prep and forgot how hard somewhere goes, wild opening run of four on that
oh man, this is already just what i wanted from them and I'm 30 seconds into track 1. Cannot wait for my vinyl to show up.
ended up taking this on a run this evening and holy shit. can't wait to dive in with a lyric sheet. steve, catasrophe film and top sellers banquet were first listen standouts. i'm so happy to have this band back in my life with new music.
Yeahhhh no surprise but with the final few songs and taking this in as a whole record it is an astronomical piece of work. This might wind up being my album of the year
This is so good, amazing record, super dense and so much to unpack. As someone said above, I'm looking forward to listening with the lyrics in front of me.
