this guts me. thinking im in the last days with my 15 year old pup. all my thoughts and love friends.
You said it. The flat production here from yip is nearly as flat as the debut, and a rare double miss from studio 4. Not totally dissimilar from the circa yip stuff, except The Amulet attempts to fix a lot of what holds Descensus down. I dont think ant sounds very good here, but boom. done may be his best solo vocal performance, so I know he's capable and this is more of a production issue. The rock and roll dad rock vibes of dunes feels so cheesy I just can't hang. Some great moments on here though, just not enough to love. Violet is easily their best track.
If Violet has flat production then I love flat production. I hope every album ever made going forward is flat as hell.
Had no idea they played Philly on my birthday last year and I didn’t go, but the plans I made anyway ruled so I’ll allow myself this lol
this is as ineffective of an argument or rebuttal that exists. its like when people deflect criticism by shouting TDS. some people like this kind of production and others dont. yip is alright imo. some albums are better than others. im rarely over excited by his work. I kinda like the post punky moments here, and the production is part of that I think.
theres some tracks here i quite like. i think therell be several that i start skipping soon especially in the first half the album. the opener’s hook is pretty good, ive been humming it at work.
Or they could simply be what I said? Never generalized since I was talking about one user. There used to be a swarm of people that would shit on him. It was a joke. It’s not that deep. Edit: I’m not saying that’s what the user meant. I’m saying the point of the joke was just referencing the idiots that use to cry about him years ago.
And there used to be people that would come in swarms to shit on him even when it didn’t. Again, it wasn’t a comment on anyone here. It was a joke. Sorry it offended some.
Relax, I’m not coming after you. I just don’t think people on this site need to be up in arms whenever someone says they don’t like the production or mix on an album he does. I absolutely get it
Sorry, been a rough week/day so I’m on like a razor’s edge constantly. So my bad. Just didn’t mean for it to be taken seriously at all or that I was referring to anyone.
All good! I feel for you and I hope things turn around for you soon. Never meant for my post to seem like it was directed specifically towards you. That was not my intention so my apologies that it seemed that way
I hope all is well, times are tough etc. We're all pretentious fake (?) critics here. Its literally the purpose if this forum. This site is dead if we end discourse because someone has a bad take you dont like lol. There is a sea of bad takes in this thread alone. If it helps, I have a lot of respect for yip and love many things he's worked on, and as die hard an ant fan as there is. All these factors are influencing my disappointment with dunes as a project (and the speculative interconnectivity of the circa survive breakup drama) because the sum of its parts is not living up to my unrealistic expectations. I'm also getting older and dunes to me seems ironically enough to be sort of a midlife crisis supergroup making music for youngins'. The dont need me to like it so no harm done. Ill mourn circa for awhile and maybe like it more once i'm further removed from that.
when you deserve to be haunted comes on its nice to have a quicker tempo and a more urgent style. like i said earlier i think this album could use some more quicker tempo songs to break up the more unipolar tempos from song to song. I mean they have the rhythm section from Thursday. give us some more bangers. I agree with you btw about some of this being a tad dad rock vibes. also holograms gives a little circa. I think it shares a little lyrical nugget too with Premonition of the Hex.
Yip has produced some of my favorite records of the past 10+ years. Floral Green, The Great Dismal, Peripheral Vision, The Amulet, Time & Space just to name a few. The Things We Think We're Missing, still a record I love and spin all the time, is probably the biggest miss out of stuff I listen to. It could definitely use a remaster to beef it up. I dont think any of his records that I've heard are truly awful in terms of production.
