Playing a 500 seat place in my town... just got tickets with the presale. Hell yeah. Seeing FIL for the 3rd time in 12 month span.
Going through my first listen and this is already superior to their debut, interesting guitar parts and vocal harmonies
The bass is, yet again, my favorite part of the album. It drives every song. Like Magik has some dark and droney The Cure vibes that I appreciate.
On first listen, the repetition of the "It's shaking in its cage" lyric in Things I Thought Would Last Forever really hit the spot. There's some beautiful guitar tones throughout, too. On Holograms, for example. The singles are particularly strong for this record.
The band sounds great and this ends really strong. "Forgiveness" might be my favorite Dunes song yet.
jessus christ the opener is better than anything they've put out previously. So excited to hear the rest
Not sure why their debut didn't fully grab me, but Violet is fantastic—"Things I Thought Would Last Forever" is a fucking jam. I'll have to give their first one another listen.
I think the best songs from both of these albums would make a great record. Both albums are pretty good, but neither of them are really my kind of "rock" music. I've only listened once, but I think the highs are higher on the debut while this one is probably more consistent.
P much this. Both are roughly half filler for me. The singles had me expecting a bit better from Violet. It's still solid. I keep thinking about this too... all 3 of the one off songs released between the LPs would've been in the top half of the Violet tracklist. Especially if Benadryl got the better LP quality production.
