I might've missed it, but did anyone in this thread express surprise at them not doing an encore? I thought the original discussion point was them leaving without comment, which I dunno, I can't remember going to a show where a band didn't at least say something before walking off. "Enjoy the show", "goodnight", something.
Yeah you’re right. I just checked back and others just started talking about encores unprompted. Regarding leaving without commenting on whatever being their last song, I’ve seen plenty of bands do that before. It’s nothing new for openers. Hell, I just saw a band a few nights ago do just that
It wasn't directed specifically at you, but to answer your question, I'm secretly a douche in disguise. Please keep my identity secret.
I was the one who thought they were saying an encore was expected because why else would it be weird for a band to just walk off when their set is over
Now people want bands to say “goodnight” to them. Next they’re gonna want them to tuck them in at night and get them a warm glass of milk for the bedside!
I haven’t even seen an encore in like 5 years so I don’t even expect one at all anymore. I know that has nothing to do with what Dunes did, but just saying
Listen, I pay for a headliner, I have to sit through the opener, least they could do is a little tuck.
Encores are lame. We either A. checked setlist.fm and know you're playing another song, or B. know that the house lights and house music hasn't come on yet so you're probably coming back out.
Funniest encore I’ve ever seen was Joyce manor walking off stage and Barry walking into the green room (it was a tiny venue you could see everything back stage) and walking right back out before the door was even halfway closed
