Finally got to listen to this and it's a banger. I've given up on trying to rank Anthony projects, but I think this is a damn good one and I'm excited for what they do in the future. Circa ending sucks, but knowing Anthony still has this, Saosin, TSOAF, solo stuff, Fuckin' Whatever, and probably 12 more projects I forgot or that haven't been announced yet, makes it not so bad.
This is going to be an unpopular opinion and perhaps I should revisit but I have never found Circa to be anything other than mildly enjoyable. This is easily my favorite AG release since the first Saosin EP
Oh i agree, but the first 3 are all timers for me, I think the last few are incredible as well. The amulet is my 4th favorite
VW and Descensus we're the first Circa albums i heard - and remain favorites of mine to this day. haven't spun this yet, but this is a good sign.
I kinda wish Rebellion was the opener and Grifter went right into Sleep Cult but it's a minor quibble
I am inclined to agree that PR would make the better opener overall, BUT kicking things off with Anthony's yell of "I'm not afraid to try" is super fucking hard
Oh it's def not anything against 2022, the outro of Grifter just hits me in a way that I wish the chill song was next, not the biggest ripper on the album haha
Best part of this for me so far is the middle where it really hits a stride with the heavy shoegaze vibe. Title track is unquestionably the high point IMO - everyone's contributions are fresh and interesting, and it certainly doesn't sound much like any of AG's main projects.
Who said circa is dead? As far as I know they’ve never said as much and they released two EPs in the last couple years.
