Couldn't find a Kings of Leon thread so came here to say I often revisit Aha Shake Heartbreak and boy what a collection of bangers
Unpopular opinion but I prefer their later stuff. Mechanical Bull through Can We Please Have Fun? Kinda forgot about the EP. Need to give that another listen.
I honestly love all of their albums aside from WALLS really, but if I have to pick a favorite I think I'd go with Because of the Times new EP is great
Not sure I've ever ranked KOL, but I got into them right when Mechanical Bull came around. Had heard the singles beforehand, but took a huge deep dive in early 2013. Come Around Sundown Only by the Night Can We Please Have Fun Mechanical Bull Because of the Times Aha Shake Heartbreak Walls Youth and Young Manhood When You See Yourself That was tough to do. Their output has been incredible and I'm sure that middle section of albums I listed could change daily. I also appreciate that all of their albums are 5 syllables. I really appreciate when artists continue themes like that.
Because of the Times Aha Shake Heartbreak Only By The Night Mechanical Bull Come Around Sundown Can We Please Have Fun When You See Yourself Youth & Young Manhood Walls this was tough for me to do - it still felt too early for me to rank the newest album, so I just kinda plunked it in without overthinking it
Come Around Sundown Because of the Times Aha Shake Heartbreak Only By the Night Mechanical Bull Can We Please Have Fun Youth and Young Manhood (big gap) When You See Yourself Walls
This is probably my exact ranking lol. Its just really tight between Aha and Because of the Times. I would maybe put Can We Please Have Fun up a notch.
yeah, I really struggled with where to put the newest one. I just don't think enough time has passed for me, where I've been listening to all the others ones for years and years
Supposedly they are recording the next album this month and next. Maybe a late 2026/early 2027 arrival. Have really liked the direction they've gone with Can We Please Have Fun and the EP. EDIT: Also, with this being their 10th album, they've talked about how they will release 10 albums and then be done. Not sure how that holds true to today, but I remember Jared confirmed that on Twitter a couple years back.
I am impressed with their entire discography as a whole. Because Of The Times is really the one that I connected with the most. Remember when that came out in college and my mind was blown bc no band at the time had ever sounded anything like this. Perfect mix of arena rock and Caleb’s strained indie mumble.
