Also has there been any word as to what the DLC is going to be for this game? it goddamn better be Coliseum and/or Sephiroth.

The lack of any Final Fantasy characters was a letdown and just felt lazy, like the Winnie the Pooh world. How are Leon, Yuffie, and Aeris not involved with Radiant Garden in some way? How do Cloud and Sephiroth just disappear?

It felt like the Disney worlds were side stories for the "real" story, which has nothing to do with the Disney games but is the culmination of over a decade of spinoff games. Given how long it took for this game to come out, it feels half-finished.

Another great summation of my feelings. Had some things I hadn’t thought about.

I feel like any Nomura project now people are going to complain about it being "half-finished". Which is super frustrating and pretty insulting.

What story was there to tell with the FF characters, outside of maybe Cloud/Sephiroth? What would be gained by adding them into the scenes in Radiant Garden?

Winnie the Pooh definitely felt tacked on. 100%. The Disney worlds felt great to me, and being as big as they were was really cool. Disney worlds have always felt more about focusing on the story of the movie rather than the game's plot. It felt about the same to me as all the other games.

Not saying KH3 specifically is half finished, but the complaints definitely aren't out of thin air about Nomura projects lately, and I LOVE him.

Idk. The parts of the game I played were really fun to play, but fair or not you get a target put on your chest when a game takes as long as Kingdom Hearts 3 has (or Final Fantasy XV in the other massive example of Nomura) and it means people are gonna nitpick a lot more as a result.

Yea I'm getting tired of people complaining about the FF characters and what not. This game was about wrapping up the Xehanort Saga, it had enough shit to deal with without worrying about shoehorning in FF characters just because "OH NO MAH FF CHARACTERS!!!!!!!!"

Not having the culmination of Cloud vs Sephiroth is unfortunate yea, but it really doesn't detract from the rest of the game. What are Leon Yuffie and Aerith gonna do besides futz around? Only thing I'll say is that a mention of them would have been nice at the very least so people might not bitch quite as much about it.

There were fuckin multiple other games in between 2 and 3! Just because people want to pretend those don't matter (and KH3 made sure to show that THEY REALLY FUCKIN DO) doesn't mean he was doing fuck all between the release of 2 and 3.

FFXV was his one big fuck up. It sucks what happened with that, truly. But that shouldn't tarnish the rest of his career he's had, he's done a LONG career.

I don't think Nomura's career is tarnished at all. But I do think massive things like FFXV result in people looking at future Nomura projects differently.

And if the games between KH2 and KH3 are the big argument to KH3 development time not really being that long, that is a big reason why titling is important and while I understand them not truly being KH3/4/5/0/etc, they should have been presented as main storyline games. Because I tried to play them but when I realized how hard of a time I was having getting into them I abandoned them because "it's a spinoff anyway", rather than diving deeper like I would a main game because "maybe it's a slow build" haha.

Oh for sure. I know that the FFXV stuff has painted him in a bad light, but I think there's a lot under the surface that happened there that probably won't come out for years. I still wish he could've taken another year and finished FFXV on his own terms, but I get that it was taking way too long. He's similar to Kojima in that aspect where they keep going in and changing/adding so much that it takes too much time and money.

KH3 was in development for not as long as I think people think IMO. I think concepts and such were in the works, but I don't think that it was a decade long endeavor, and then changing game engines is what the biggest holdup ended up being.

There's definitely things that I think could've been done a lot better. Those things though don't make me feel like the game is incomplete or missing complete story parts like FFXV felt at times. That game felt unfinished multiple times, while this seemed like a complete package, just with maybe not as much content as people were expecting.

Btw I just woke up so I'm sure my arguments are presented like ass...but idk I just don't think Square Enix could've not seen this happening. It's still a major success.

Yeah, the way they were presented and the stupid titling of these games really shot themselves in the foot. They needed to push harder at the times that it was a mainline title that would affect the story moving forward. I think a lot of people just thought "eh it's a spinoff", and didn't realize how huge it would be going forward. I hope if there is another game that isn't titled KH4 coming up that it's pushed as a main title and explained better.

From what I've played I definitely agree with this. Although I'm thinking there still may be a good amount of content to see that just isn't thrown right in my face? Idk I'll find out haha.

If anything I think KH3 and the current (excellent) state of consoles at the very least has people prepared to play a non-KH4 game going forward.

Yeah, the side content that is there is kind of not pushed to the forefront like the flans/battle gates. The lack of a coliseum is a big complaint of most and mine as well though, as well as secret/post game bosses. There's definitely less post-game stuff this go around compared to something like KH2.

Some of those battles with their criterias made me so damn mad. Give me the OG KH1 coliseum

I wouldn't be surprised if they did have to cut some things due to it already taking too long after the engine switchover. I think that really affected development a lot and they did what they could to make it work, and I think they did a great job making a final product that still stands on it's own. I think if this was the original engine from the start there would be a lot more side things to do that they could've had added focus on. I'm very interested to see what they do for this DLC they've been talking about.

Yeah like I get why they branched out and did something new but that coliseum was so perfect haha.

Speaking of which I love how NieR Automata did their coliseum setup. 3 different ones each with a different setup (1 waves, 1 hijacking waves, and 1 with specific criteria). I wish they didn't make em DLC though.

This post is mostly what I was going off of and what got me started, I probably shouldn't have jumped off of yours Dustin your points are understandable even if I'm personally fine with them.

Meanwhile this is just a bad post, particularly the second part.

The Disney worlds in KH3 were arguably more connected to the main plot than they ever have been in the past.

Also this misconception that there are “spin-off” games or “side games” in Kingdom Hearts is really inaccurate. Every single game is relevant to the overarching plot of the series in some way (even Coded, which comes the closest to actually earning the title of “side game” but still contains important plot information in it). A ton of the most important, game-changing developments in the series take place in games that aren't KH 1-3. What were they supposed to do, number all of them?
