I used to watch reruns of this show with my mom after school. I had a blast watching the new season with her. Full circle moment.
So I finished the new season last night and overall my opinion has not changed. It was all-in-all fantastic. This might be the best reboot/revival that’s happened in recent years. I eagerly await another new season
The one thing I really missed was Cotton. His relationship with Hank is so important to understand Hank's personality, and it made it so much more uplifting when Hank would overcome those emotional handicaps. One of the best early episodes was about Bobby being preternaturally good at shooting so he convinces Hank to enter a father-son contest, assuming his dad was great at it, but Hank is scarred by how Cotton taught him to shoot. Hank ends up choking in the final moments of the competition, but they still place second and Bobby is so full of love for his dad that Hank is able to smile and connect with his son.
Yeah it's definitely one of those aspects of the character where the facts of the plot undercut her overblown ego. She brags about winning substitute teacher of the year three times and yet if that were some great achievement, why is she unable to land a permanent teaching position (Also in the course of looking up how many times she won the award, I found out she has a 2 year teaching degree, and that she herself created the award and won it because she was the only person who cared) So yeah, one of the main things about Peggy is being arrogant about things she's not actually good at
I would fairly confidently say I enjoyed the revival season more than most of the last couple seasons of the original run where it (slightly) went down in quality. Three more short seasons sounds perfect.
