I love that the Hank and Bobby-driven episodes do a kind of role swapping. Bobby is now the one with the work-life plotlines, working hard running a storefront for an incompetent boss whose name is on the business….just like Hank used to do. But the show really began to feel itself when we got more of the side character b-plots. The Bill episode was great lol
Yeah I had to google that charcoal Bobby uses and it opened up a whole world of stuff that I did not know about
I love how Hank never bails on his friends even though they are total weirdos. The black barbershop episode where Bill was doing all that creepy shit was vintage Bill.
This is okay so far. It captures a lot of the original tone. Why is Peggy saying Saudi Arabia like that? The joke was always that she got Spanish horrifically wrong, not butchering a fairly easy name in English.
I think it went beyond that even if it was in small doses. Her proudly boasting about Carpe Diem comes to mind and I definitely remember her pronouncing it weird
I could see someone arrogantly pronouncing carpe diem wrong, but in all the times Hank must have suggested moving there, to people asking about their experience, to the people they interact with in that compound, everyone around her would have said it normal.
Idk I guess I can see what you mean, but also I'm not gonna hold anything that tightly against them if they wanted to lean into some new nonsensical quirks that do pretty much align with Peggy's penchant for being stubbornly wrong about basic common sense stuff. I didn't think twice about it and actually found it pretty funny.
The voice actress was saying it that way in the press interviews and I knew it had to be a reference to something Peggy was going to say. haha. But yeah, I thought it was pretty funny. It's one of those things where she probably (incorrectly) read something about pronunciation while trying to learn Arabic, and now she thinks she knows the "correct" pronunciation of Saudi Arabia and assumes that everyone else is just mistaken (even people from Saudi Arabia).
This was fine. It is nowhere near as good as the early seasons, but they did more than just spinning their wheels and cashing the check.
The ‘King of the Hill’ Reboot Will Heal Your Complicated Relationship with Texas Great write up from the perspective of a progressive Texan
It is similar to Florida. These are huge states where the Democratic nominee got about 42 percent of the vote in both states. There are great people and great cities in both.
Been watching this show from the beginning for the last few months. 6 episodes into season 5 and it’s absolutely firing on all cylinders. Is this a hot take? Peggy kinda sucks. Her unchecked ego is a downright turn off for me as a viewer. So much so that I thoroughly enjoyed the episode where Hank called her on her shit in “Peggy’s Fan Fair”.
Peggy is hilarious. Before Kahn's family moves in, she is probably the most educated person in their neighborhood, so she has developed a huge ego. However, she probably has a Bachelor's at best, so she is just a big fish in a small pond. She reads the equivalent of an entry-level Wikipedia page and proclaims herself an expert. She is the complete opposite of Hank, who is an expert in his areas while admitting ignorance in everything else.
Peggy is basically an overconfident character, much of the humor from her is based on her being arrogant yet uneducated or unaware about something. The best example of this is when she unknowingly kidnapped a Mexican child and was put on the stand, her inability to actually speak fluent Spanish is ultimately what saved her in court. It’s understandable as to find her annoying but that’s part of the charm imo.
Her extreme pride in her supposed skills as a substitute teacher is a great bit too. Maybe it is different in Texas but here substitutes are part timers who have a spouse that pays the bills, retired teachers, and coaches that already work at the school. No one is angling to be the best at it; how can you be the best at telling kids to go to Google Classroom and do the assignment the teacher posted?
