Loving this so far. Feels pretty much like a natural step from the original run with a slight time jump. Dale’s voice is throwing me a bit though. Honestly interested in the switch to Toby Huss later
I’ve been digging this too, the third episode focusing on Bobby was like classic KOTH and it even had that happy, nice ending the best episodes of the show had too.
I've always loved this show for how much it reflected life in suburban Dallas and now they're making hyper specific references like the the UT Dallas Jonsson School of Engineering hahaha
This is so good. As basically everyone else has pointed out a million times, Dale’s voice (and the replacement VAs) sounding a bit off is literally my only complaint. The show itself, writing, humor, and heart is so good and so enjoyable. This is one of the better reboots I’ve seen.
The animation looks like every copy and paste adult cartoon from the last ten years. The early show had such personality.
I'm four episodes in and this has been enjoyable to watch. I'm such a fan of 21 year old Bobby. Dale's voice is off even though it's apparently still Johnny doing it for these first few episodes. I guess aging and maybe his failing health played a role in why he sounded so different? I dunno. It's a little distracting, but it's really just a minor gripe in the grand scheme of things. Just really happy this show is back and I'm curious to see where the writers take this.
The voice thing is a mixed bag. We don't often get to compare our voices 15 years apart so we do not notice how they change, but it is even more prevalent in an acting role because their interpretation of the dole can change as well. I am glad they kept Adlon instead of doing an adult male Bobby voice.
Ended up doing the first 6 eps. Kinda wanna try and save the remaining 4 and stretch them out a bit. The updated more "modern" animation did give me a teensy bit of whiplash at first coming off the heels of watching the original run almost daily for quite some time. It made me think a lot of Archer in certain sequences.
It's weird that Toby Huss honestly sounded a bit more like the old Dale Gribble than Johnny Hardwick did. That is just an observation not a criticism on Hardwick, as we have no clue what was going on with him during recording.
Watched the first three episodes tonight. Absolutely enjoying this. They perfectly maintained the vibe of the original series which I was pleasantly surprised by. I can’t wait to watch the remaining episodes!
I flew past all ten episodes, this season was fantastic. It’s nice to see all those characters again and they did a great job integrating them into a world 15 years later. The callbacks were cool and man, Bobby is just so cool now, I love it. Can’t wait for the new episodes down the road.
