Oh man, I caved. This is unbelievable. His sound just keeps expanding so much with each record. Some really dark stuff on here but there’s a lot of moments of rugged beauty. This is the best thing I’ve heard so far this year by a huge margin. Damn.
This album is awesome. I always felt that The Ooz drifted just a little too much (which I know is the point), so it’s nice to hear something so concise from him.
I think that's part of why I liked The Ooz so much, there's definitely a meandering, dream-like quality to it that I adore. Not to say that this isn't great, because I like it very much! But you're right it's much more concise.
Yeah, this is fucking great. Only listened once, but this will definitely be a top 10 album at the end of the year. Maybe even top 5.
Gave this a listen without having heard much if anything from him before, but I don't think this is for me unfortunately. It's interesting but not in a way I'd really want to revisit.
Definitely recommend trying 6 Feet Beneath the Moon and The OOZ. I'm only halfway through this, and there are tracks I like, but I honestly think this might be his most inaccessible. 6 Feet is relatively breezy, and while The OOZ is comparatively dense, I think it's a little more digestible on first listen. (It's also a masterpiece imo)
6 Feet Beneath the Moon has some mad hooks that none of his other records really have. “Easy Easy” is such a catchy tune. After spending a week with this though, I’m pretty confident that it’s my favourite work he’s done yet. I agree that it’s his least accessible, which seems crazy to say when you think about the spraw of The Ooz.
For some reason, Easy Easy annoys the hell out of me. I think it’s the reason why it took me so long to get into, that as the first song nearly ruined him for me haha
Yeah I only listened to this once in my car, but it struck me as more hazy/experimental than The Ooz which I didn’t think was possible. Can’t wait to digest more.
After many more listens I think this has become a near perfect album for me. It lulls you into its atmosphere more effectively than The Ooz does (which I already thought was a really well structured album) in a much shorter run time. His lyricism on this is also so much stronger.
