Been making my way through the new batch of shows. Fuck, the acoustic show Live in San Diego '24 is incredible
Just saw them last night in Atlanta and what an experience. I like everything I've heard, but can't say I know the catalogue all that well, but it was a great show where I never felt 'lost' by not knowing the music. Fully sold out in a gorgeous venue, and the people watching was great. As expected, top notch lights and production. The one downside of the venue, is the sound is not great compared to some others, but the vibe more than makes up for it. Highlight of the show was Iron Lung. Didn't know that song, but remembered the line 'crumble like a biscuit' and sought it out this morning. Though I thought they were singing 'Higher love' over and over haha. so I googled higher love crumble like a biscuit king gizzard and found it.
I was there too and I’m glad you enjoyed yourself! Incredible show with a nice showcase of their sounds. I was a little bummed we didn’t get any microtonal stuff since it would’ve fit the vibe of the venue quite well but it’s a minor complaint since what we got was so good. Stu and Joey continuing to use “the table” as they were wheeling it off was so funny too. The Fox is an incredible venue and I thought the staff was very nice which is always a plus.
yea, eclectic mix on the setlist for sure. The ushers were jamming out right below my seat having a good time - one usher was an older lady (60-70) having a great time. The only thing I hated were the drink lines, the pouring of all the canned beers seemed to make the lines take forever. I've always avoided the fox as I've heard the sound was meh, and while it wasn't my favorite, it was not distracting or 'bad' by any means. Gonna go listen to, checks notes, 'microtonal banana' now.
Been waiting for this band to come to the US for a minute and I think they'd be right up the alley for a lot of ya'll. Not as genre bending as King Gizz, but jazzy / jammy and extremely talented band. Just got a ticket to their tour and will be looking forward to it. High Fade
Really good article from GQ with lots of background from the early days through this latest tour King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard: On the Road With the Most Audacious Band In Rock
Felt like using bias sorter and this is what i've come up with for ranking all their albums: 1. Nonagon Infinity 2. I'm In Your Mind Fuzz 3. Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava 4. Flying Microtonal Banana 5. PetroDragonic Apocalypse 6. Float Along - Fill Your Lungs 7. Infest the Rats' Nest 8. Omnium Gatherum 9. Polygondwanaland 10. Flight b741 11. Murder of the Universe 12. Butterfly 3000 13. Fishing For Fishies 14. Paper Mache Dream Balloon 15. Changes 16. K.G. 17. L.W. 18. Gumboot Soup 19. Oddments 20. Quarters! 21. The Silver Cord 22. Eyes Like the Sky I'd say the Top 7 and Bottom 4 are locked/accurate. 8-22 is much looser and would be in a different order every time I used the sorter.
Was at the Athens shows. Can’t wait to relive them after this Plovdiv show wraps up. https://www.youtube.com/live/xxPEUb_rSaA?si=7g03iHOVrMvnphu7
