Man, I really want to watch this. 10, 15, 20 years ago I would have been all over this but I just can’t bring myself to watch a 3 1/2 hour film right now.
Split it in halves or even thirds imo - I do that all the time with normal-length films on weeknights
I can’t bring myself to do that either, haha. I kind of revved myself up to finally start this tonight, but I changed my Apple password a few months ago and it took me 15 minutes to log in and by the time I got in I was already annoyed and just can’t mentally do it right now. Length of films never used to bother me but maybe binge watching TV shows changed my thinking on that. Like, I can watch half a season of a show in that time frame or watch just one film. it’s become a weird mental block with me that I have trouble getting past.
Why does that matter? You can watch six movies in the length of time it takes to read a book, so should people not read? What about really long video games?
It is true that I sometimes avoid reading because I would rather be catching up on my mile-long movie watchlist
I will never understand the phenomena of folks digging at a movie for it's length and then turning to a Netflix binge of the same length or magnitudes more without batting a eye.
you should definitely watch this movie but also who cares if someone prefers TV to movies? weirdos in here
Having a preference for one or the other is one thing, but the runtime/piss break discourse is colossally stupid and so art hostile. I've seen critics I respect get caught up in it too, I could go the rest of my life without hearing what someone would trim from a movie to make the runtime more acceptable to them, the fact that this attitude has become so predominant fucking sucks man.
I mean, if it’s 3 hours at a theater vs any length of binge at home, there is a huge difference in experience.
I think having concerns of runtime is totally valid to be clear, I understand it can be difficult to fit a 3 and a half hour movie into your life, but I dunno man it really upsets me when I hear people treating the runtime of KotFM as audacious when it's a work from someone who's been at this for 50 years and we don't know how much time he has left, or how much longer these kinds of movies will even get made. It just really sucks that there is so much to talk about with this movie but the discourse was almost entirely, IT'S TOO LONG! Also, it's a movie on a difficult subject and you spend a lot of time with a completely repellant character, if that isn't gonna be for you, that's totally understandable and I wish folks would just say that instead, it's a lot easier to swallow!
I’m having to wait to see it on Apple at this point. Which I think is soon? I haven’t been paying attention. That’s valid. This will be one of his final films, probably? I do think it’s an easy thing to point at to complain. Tbf, I do think most movies should be shorter. But there should be exceptions like in this case. He’s earned it. I’m just tired of these nearly three hour long mid comic book movies, as an example. So I guess I get both sides?
Like I said, I haven’t been paying attention haha I shall watch it soon then. May not have time tonight.
