How many crowded showings are you all actually going to? I can understand needing to treat superhero movies (and people who watch those movies) like cattle, but I can barely remember the last showing that had more than a dozen people in it. Even Barbie and Mario were maybe half full.
My theaters for Oppenheimer and Barbie were pretty full. Even the arthouse/foreign films can get crowded since so many independent theaters near us have dried up or pivoted to blockbusters/mainstream western films that if something good makes its way near us all the film nerds and old people sometimes show out. I basically have to go to Ann Arbor to see anything indie/international.
most blockbusters I go to are probably 60-70% full, since I typically go on Saturday or Sunday afternoons, not evenings Barbenheimer weekend was probably the busiest I've seen the theaters since Spider-Man No Way Home came out going to see Priscilla tonight in a small auditorium and 11/56 seats are sold right now
We need a moratorium on bringing up superheroes in Scorsese threads or Scorsese in superhero threads (except when the latter is actual meaningful discussion of how his essay relates to that genre and its studios, instead of unfunny memes). They’re currently entwined like the Marvels in the upcoming The Marvels, and it’s pretty annoying, lol.
I assume whenever I see Priscilla this weekend the audience will be able to fit into a van. If I make the trip to Anatomy of a Fall it might be a little busier but that is only because the only theater playing it in the entire county is the movie theater at Disney World. I think the last time I was in a sold out movie was The Ring in 2002.
I think our Flower Moon showing was actually half full which surprised me, but we only have one theater in town now.
Oddly the last 3 movies I’ve been able to get to the theater for have all been pretty much sold out. Oppenheimer, The Taste of Things and All of Us Strangers. all bangers btw.
