Seeing him get ripped apart online lessened the blow for me. He was definitely over the top but not like worst performance of the year kind of bad
When he first started yelling in the court room he sounded like Newman interrogating Jerry or yelling at Kramer about Risk. Just felt wildly out of place
Fantastic movie. Definitely in his top 1/3 of his filmography. I had a little issue at first with the initial time jump of 2 years but then was fine following the jumps. Marty at the end took me out of it a bit. Completely sold out showing with a bunch of bros leaving pissed off. Overheard one guy say “easily his worst film, all of his films have twists and this didn’t have a twist!”
I dashed to the bathroom just before that scene so imagine my surprise when I came back into the theater at the precise moment that......well...
I didn’t get much sleep last night and went to an 8pm showing tonight…so unfortunately that meant that I struggled to keep my eyes open many times in the first half of this the scene where the house blew up helped wake me up and stay focused the rest of the way lol. But my main takeaway with this is that the acting was phenomenal, great cast.
I don’t know how accurate this part of the movie was to real life, but I found it amusing how years went by of apparently nobody having any idea who was behind everything, then the feds show up and within like 10 minutes they’re like “yeah it’s very obviously these guys”
There were several times that people mentioned they knew Bobby D was responsible. The most notable was after the house explosion.
But weren’t those all people who were functionally in on it as well? Like the Masons they were all together with near the end, with Fraser When Plemons rolls into town, the leaders of the tribe yell at him about how the killers hide in the shadows, so they clearly have no idea. And Molly never seemed to even suspect Ernest of anything
The first guy off the street was like “Yes I know who killed Anna.” edit: that said, it’s been a few months since I read the book, but I feel like I remember things moving pretty quickly once Tom White got involved
I didn’t come out of this thinking Fraser was bad. Oops I thought he was as extreme as DeNiro’s lawyer should be.
