After getting dumped by Tyra, choked to death by Jesse, and made an accomplice in your own fathers' murder, Landry finally got to save the day.
devastating is a good word. i was talking to the people i saw it with after for a few minutes and one of the many common opinions was just how heavy of a watch a lot of this was. no spoilers of course but, man, the white man sure does suck.
also it was a little odd to me that, from my take on it they seemed to make it seem like Bill Smith lived after the house explosion, like he was found alive, but very quickly thereafter the incident was referred to as his murder from there on out. i kept expecting like, Bill Smith with no legs to show up near the end to testify against Ernest lol
I wonder what the decision-making process was with regards to age. So much money and time was spent de-aging characters for The Irishman, but here DeNiro and DiCaprio are playing characters much younger than they were. DiCaprio is near 50 and obviously not a returning war veteran, but I had no idea that DeNiro's character was supposed to be much younger and they talk about how much longer he lived after the film's traditional narrative ends.
yeah at a certain point marty is gonna work with his actors regardless and i’m fine with that rather fudge the ages a bit than go through the de-aging arguments again
This is arguably Scorsese's best four-film stretch of his career. To be so vibrant and important at his age is remarkable. His contemporaries all faded into irrelevancy much earlier. The length issue was talked about a lot, but it truly did not feel like an issue. I did not get a lot of sleep the night before and worked an 11 hour day before seeing it and it still kept me enthralled. Something I saw on Twitter, and it makes a lot of sense, is that the book explicitly compares King's head to the owl. Those glasses he wears accentuates it, but he is portrayed almost literally as the figure of death.
raging bull-king of comedy-after hours-color of money goodfellas-cape fear-age of innocence-casino this run is definitely up there but i’d put it slightly below those two (wolf of wall street-silence-irishman-killers if you don’t wanna look it up lol)
do we know when this hits apple? saw it last night but idk if i’ll get another chance to catch it in the theater
The Color of Money is really dragging the other three down there. Instead of Casino, I would start with The Last Temptation of Christ for that four-film run. That is the closest comparison; however, I would put the latest four above them.
