This is better than his recent efforts. There's stuff to enjoy here, but idk if I really like it overall. It's definitely too long. I do like the tracks with Andre.
5 tracks in and pleasantly surprised by how much I like this so far. The melodies are all really good and the production bumps around in some offputtingly interesting ways. "By Design" with Andre sounds as good as I could hope.
This is better than most of his recent output, but its pretty boring. Production is really cool though.
Favortie tracks after my first listen last night: All In, Wounds, Cosmic Warrior, The Guide, The Commander All In & Wounds are the classic Cudi that smacked ya in your feels cus it feels like he wrote that shit about you, especially All In with my relationship, lol. The production on the album is incredible.
This is definitely a few tracks too long but I'm super happy with it. He's one of the rappers who got me into the genre and this is probably my favorite album of his since MOTM2. Production is awesome and he brings it on almost every song, and Andre's features don't disappoint either
Holy crap this is 85 minutes long? Definitely should have cut a few songs out. I'm only 8 songs in so far but really enjoying it. His best work in a while.
I fell asleep when I listened to this last night (not a bad thing, just when I decided to listen and it lent to the music in a good way) but I liked the first quarter of it a decent amount. Still some lyrical blunders and odd vocal choices, but easily more enjoyable than I was anticipating. That being said, I still have to finish it haha. The Willow song and first Andre song are winners.
The second half has a few filler tracks in there, but I can't complain about that or the length of the album. I love this release. I think it's great.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passion,_Pain_&_Demon_Slayin' If you go by the acts, I feel like act 3 could have been cut down, though I'm not quite sure which ones I'd cut. Probably Mature Nature at least, and Releaser from the first act. All three of the other ones are incredibly strong imo, act 4 is a really good ending run for the album
Am I the only one who really likes Releaser? The beat in that song is amazing. It's a long track, but its a nice interlude into By Design. My only real complaint with it is that comes in too early in the tracklisting. The song could be in the soundtrack to the show Luke Cage on Netlfix. Decent show and killer soundtrack.
You can try and numb the pain but it'll never go-a-oh-a-oh-a-oh.....have had this line stuck in my head for days. I'm so happy that Cudi made a good album again.
