I skimmed this on insta while walking and I just reread it after yr post. I thought he was quitting music god thank you
When I started reading this I thought makes sense. Tour, make money to have time off with the family and write. Bummed out to see that he'll be taking time away from his solo career. I mean, it wasnt that long ago Kevin crowdfunded over $100,000 or something crazy and made two good records. Plus he seemed to really love Instigator. I think Kevin's angle was refreshing and very important at times like these (dealing with world issues and human issues). I was kinda expecting a Bad Books somethingnin late 2018. Guess that won't happen now. Well I hope he comes back refreshed and ready when he's good to go, and for now he'll have fun in Brand New.
When you have a wife and a kid I'm sure it's a no brainer to your with brand new for a year, it's probably a nice raise and I'm happy for him, he deserved it
There's honestly so many reasons to do this. Dude honestly gets to tour with his friends... even for free it sounds awesome
I mean realistically I can't imagine we'll even really notice an absence of Kevin. We've got the instigator alt. version in the next month or two, and with all the speculation that Brand New are calling it quits next year fhis isn't gonna be a super long term change. Hell, the guy haa what, 9 solo albums? That's more than the majority or acts can squeeze out of a career, even if this was THE END he's given us way more than we could reasonably have asked. This is just gonna feel like the normal break that most artists have between records, and he'll be back before we know it with a wider perspective and some great experience.
This is a really cool move and I'm personally really excited to see him play with them in London. Gonna make sure he knows some of us really appreciate him.
Hope he has fun - I'm taking solace in the fact that hopefully he'll still be making great albums after Brand New are a distant memory
I think someone said Bad Books would happen in 2019, and this might be a part of that (on top of MO probably touring ABMTTS a bunch more next year). Him playing with Brand New is such an awesome opportunity. Plus he did say there might be one-off shows here and there, probably December at the earliest. I do hope he does a mini-tour or something for We Are Who We've Always Been with some of the folks featured on it, though.
I have a feeling a lot of people won't like this version, but I like it a lot. Not more than the original, but I love the vocalizing and harmonies. In case anyone needs a link to the preorder page: Kevin Devine - We Are Who We've Always Been (also has Instigator+WAWWAB bundle if you don't have the former on vinyl yet!)
Yeah, I don't think I like it better than the original, but I really like it. Those harmonies really are something else, right @teebs41?
Ha they are good but I agree I like the original version more but it may fit well in context of this record
She does! I think the only reason I like the original more is because it came first and I've listened to it more lol. I can see myself listening to this version more often tbh.
I probably missed this mentioned elsewhere but Half Waif is literally half of Pinegrove. I'm watching their Audiotree performance right now: Edit: And they're touring with Julien Baker this year. I already wanted to go see Julien but now I'm doubly excited.
I used to think PYGTR was overrated and I wish i could punch that version of myself for being so wrong. anyway i will definitely be picking this up
The digital download with the preorder is available on Oct. 20th at 12AM EDT. I think just meant available to preorder now lol
