If he did another cover album, I'd like to hear In Utero in the style of Matter of Time ie studio level live recordings. Could be monstrously good (maybe. In Utero is kind of perfect).
He's done a handful of Elliot Smith songs. That would be my guess. But I don't expect it. Just wondered if he'd do a covers thing. He did REM last.
That REM split with Jesse is the only covers thing I own on vinyl but it's so sick. His cover of Lovesong by the Cure is legitimately gold, I love that shit so much. A covers thing with a lot of the covers I've seen him do would be sick. The Smiths, Neutral Milk Hotel, Bright Eyes, Modest Mouse... @Aaron Mook will he do this that's my last interview question
That was one of my questions too. I could just Kevin doing something like that when the time is right.
I don't see it happening as more than a one off though, I remember seeing a video of him doing a cover and he was like "Doing covers is weird because you don't want to be known as the guy who just does other people's songs" or something to that extent. Then again, it could have something to do that he just covered a Brand New song and you know. That's pretty understandable. Don't wanna be in that shadow forever.
It can be kinda fun though. Frank Turner did a regional cover on one of his recent tours. Sorta a fun idea. If it comes from a natural place I don't think anyone ever he's confused.
Thank you. Was wondering where this would show up. I Was Alive Back Then is my favorite, as I thought it would be.
Interview was wonderful. Currently working on transcribing it so I can get it submitted as soon as possible.
Instigator vinyl comes with the Pogolith Zine Issue - 001. It's pretty cool, but no worthwhile clues that I am able to pick up on. Wish I had gotten the red vinyl variant instead of the cream, but what are you gonna do?
What's everyone favorite song on Instigator? I'm currently torn between Freddie Gray Blues and Both Ways.
This whole album is really really good. I also really dig the Between the Concrete and Clouds vibe on Guard Your Gates too. This album is definitely a grower though. I like it more each listen.
the title track has me humming it all day and all night but goddamn if i was alive back then and freddie gray blues aren't excellent
In case you missed it: Interview: Kevin Devine • chorus.fm This is hands-down the coolest thing I've gotten to do as a writer for AP/Chorus and it's because of you all that I get to keep doing it, so thank you. Hope you like it.
Apologies in advance but I'm listening to the whole discog today so Brother's Blood > Split the Country = Bubblegum > Concrete & Clouds > Instigator > Bulldozer > Ghost I don't listen to Circle or Clocks ever really so I didn't include them.
i'm in disbelief at that ranking but i tried to rearrange it in my head and was like. god dammit i can't put any of them last, and i don't think i can put one first so i guess im really just in disbelief at myself
Gun to my head, my ranking would be: Between the Concrete & Clouds Brother's Blood Instigator Bubblegum Make the Clocks Move Split the Country, Split the Street Circle Gets the Square Bulldozer Put Your Ghosts to Rest Lots of nostalgia and past connection to some of those early albums.
