That acoustic set with Kayleigh just keeps giving -- I hope there will be more before the tour starts. KD played the full album acoustic for Patreon last week and it's left me more excited for a release than I can remember in some time!
I wasn’t familiar with the Yeah yeah Yeah’s original version of Hysteric, but KD’s cover is great. I wish he’d bulk release a bunch of his Patreon covers again to bandcamp
I'd be surprised if he doesn't ultimately release the cover album (Elliott Smith) and EP (band TBD) that he's doing for Patreon Year 3. Fingers crossed!
I get releasing to fans in the Patreon first, but it was nice having those up and available on bandcamp
Listening to the singles for the first time now. "Albatross" brings the BTC&C vibes. The mellotron and strings are interesting additions. "How Can I Help You" is wild, never heard him make something quite like this before. Sounds like Gotye lmao
Yeah, these songs are cool, album will be interesting. Some of the production choices are also giving me Summerteeth/Yankee Hotel Foxtrot vibes
It’s definitely his least conventional record song writing wise. The more I listen to it though the more I like it.
This thing is so good. I don't even know what else to say about it -- incredibly dynamic, some of his most affecting lyrics ever for me personally, and so many totally new styles that still somehow reinforce his signature sound. I am a stan, I admit. But I can't recall feeling so intensely about a KD record after just a couple of spins.
I listened to some clips earlier in the year and wasn’t feeling it, but I wanted to hold off on the singles till closer to release and finally listened to a couple of them today. I really dig it! Everything sounds really solid in the context of the songs. The two I listened to were really dynamic, attention-grabbing, and super lyrically dense. I’m pumped to hear the whole thing! …but also, the bridge to Albatross (while being really good) is straight up “Eeny, meeny, miny, moe“
Only listened once so far, thanks to the Patreon download, but will join the praise. It's unlike any other KD album so far in its production and atmosphere, but you can still hear how it's grown out of his past songwriting. I'm excited to keep listening.
Post Bubblegum and Kuala Lumpur I think this is the kinda of album I had been expecting from Kevin. So happy there's another new KD album. Hope the EP he does gets a wide release too (as well as the Patreon stuff eventually) and I'd still love to hear an acoustic version of this too because I do think it'd have a very different vibe. Useless observation, but Dan Andriano released a song called It's a Trap Door! in February and Kevin has a song called It's a Trap!. Very different songs, but it was odd to see songs with such similar song titles and punctuation so close together (although its a common phrase).
Hmmm. This isn’t usually the sound I prefer from him. It feels like a truer follow up to concrete and clouds than instigator, or if that album was all ‘guard your gates’—but I’m enjoying the weird curveballs in here. Glad I didn’t listen to override when it was released. Song fuckin rips
"Instigator" wasnt the follow-up album to BTCAC. There were two other whole albums after that before instigator. "Bulldozer" and "Bubblegum" were released back-to-back, 2 years after BTCAC. Then "Instigator" 3 years after those albums.
This feels more like the album that should’ve come after concrete than the album that should’ve come after instigator
