Agreed. It was my first time seeing all three play, and I was blown away by this tour. Most of my favorite tours have been tied to emotional attachment with bands ending (Empire Empire, MCS, Yellowcard), but this may surpass all of those. Freddie Gray Blues is crushing live.
I like when artists are good on record and better live the way Kevin is. I need a solo tour to complete the KDev experience
"This is a song for Standing Rock, this is a song for Planned Parenthood, and it goes out to our new president elect" He basically screams the second verse, haha. I already loved the song but after last night, I'm borderline obsessed with it.
Set from last night in CT: Brooklyn Boy Just Stay She Can See Me Bloodhound Instigator Magic Magnet No Why No Time Flat Off Screen Both Ways Not Over You Yet Freddie Gray Blues I Could Be With Anyone Little Bulldozer Bubblegum Daydrunk No History Redbird Cotton Crush Every Famous Last Word Splitting Up Christmas
Oh man. Splitting Up Christmas! I don't know if I've ever seen him do that live. Maybe he'll pull it out tonight in Boston. Hope you had fun!
It'd be crazy if he didn't vary his setlist when he's got nine albums+the occasional miracle of 86 song to cull from
Yeah it was a fantastic show. Someone called out for him to play Splitting Up Christmas earlier in the set so I dunno if he decided to do it because of that. I was a little bummed he didn't do I Was Alive Back Then but I was super stoked to hear Xmas. I never really got into Bubblegum but that show is giving me a new appreciation of it. Pinegrove was awesome too, seeing them live has definitely given me new appreciation of them as well. Petal was solid though I probably would have liked them better if I knew the music. There was a really cool moment when KD, the GD Band and some of Pinegrove came on stage during one of the singer's solo song and played the last chorus with her and based on her reaction she didn't know it was coming.
Just saw him in Boston. Holy shit what a show that was, looks like I need to look into the newer albums. His band is so good. Group of people behind us was wild disrespectful during "Freddie Gray Blues" just sort of talking as loudly as possible during all the solo songs. Like, why bother going?
There were three dudes at the ATL date that were just chilling at the very front and looking at their phones almost the entire time. They were super stoked for Cotton Crush and No History, though.
I've never really gotten into Kevin Devine before. I tend to give his albums one spin, it doesn't quite click, or I see him support Brand New and yeah, it's nice but not what I'd race out to listen to. Really enjoying this one though. I think it might even be in top 10 AOTY consideration for me. Need to go back over his discog. Where to re-start?
I was there too and I agree. I've seen him a ton over the last 10 years, including actually getting to play a couple of those shows, but I think this may have topped them all. He was a mad man. I was bummed that he had to cut the set short because of the venue, but it was still a great time. Glad you enjoyed it!
I couldn't quite hear but I think someone might have yelled for it in Boston too. His set ended up getting cut a bit short by the venue though, so he only got to do one solo song at the end. Still an amazing set set though. I really enjoyed Petal as well. This was the third time I've seen Pinegrove this year and they just keep getting tighter. I really enjoyed their set, but they definitely seemed a bit tired, which is understandable. They've been on tour all year, and this was also an early show so I think people were still warming up a bit.
Might interest some of y'all! My friend Jamie got to interview KD in Mancheser, which was a big deal for him. :)
