I love "Magic Magnet". I heard that track for the first time almost exactly one year ago in Nashville at the Brand New/Kevin Devine/Manchester Orchestra show.

 

This is album is a lot of fun. Short and sweet. Quite short, actually.

"I Was Alive Back Then" by far my favorite track on the record. "No History" is another favorite.

 

I got it on my iPod and it was so satisfying walking around with this in my ears. I'm more present for the release of this one in a way that I wasn't for Bulldozer and Bubblegum. So I suppose this is my first album cycle I've been invested for.
Obligatory this is good as hell what the fuck

 

It's very good, as expected, and essentially the album I needed right now in my life, as every KD album has been since Brother's Blood.

I am out-of-my-mind excited at the prospect of seeing him with Julien Baker and Pinegrove in Atlanta. I simply cannot imagine a better line-up.

Yep. And that's after I cut like two pages casual conversation about music and journalism, haha. It's eight pages on Word, and I'm not sure if that's too long or not (it doesn't feel like it) or if this should be a two-parter (it doesn't feel like it needs to be), but who knows. I'm working on figuring that out now. My hope is that it would publish Monday though, if not today.

Great review, it can't be easy summing up his entire nine album career and how it led to this. The comparisons you made by album and era are spot on too, especially liked the line about how FGB could've been bungled if not for his clear empathy.

 

thanks! this really feels like a career spanning album to me, you know? so i wanted to be sure i got that across. and i thought it was important to note that, both bc it shows his talent and bc i think it reflects on him as a person
