FREDDIE GRAY BLUES THOUGH SERIOUSLY THANK YOU //THAT// IS A PROTEST SONG AND IT SOUNDS SO GOOOOOD THIS WAY
For sure. It wasn't a bad song before, but it didn't exactly pop at me before if that makes sense until he started yelling, which is what would make me pay attention on the split version. The more aggressive intro helps in keeping that ebb and flow of energy whereas on the split it was more ebb than flow.
I really want to listen to the stream, but there is just so much other good music that just came out. Will probably wait one more week before I listen.
Guard the Gates sounds like a song written during Between the Concrete and Clouds but got tracked in this session. It reminds me of either Offscreen or First Hit, the song is over so I lost the comparison I had whoops
You're right, it doesn't remind me of BB it reminds me of BTC&TC. Thanks. Need to make some edits to my review. Haha
I think this and BTC&C have the strongest 90s vibes in terms of how they sound, though they tap into different influences. Like I guess it'd be the arrangements and production that make it just sound that way, but Guard the Gates was like an intersection of the two in my head. They are both forward thinking but backwards looking, which I think is v cool
I haven't listened to this since my initial listen bc I desperately want my next listen to be once i've downloaded it. but yeah, No History is so sick. Also have had the chorus to instigator stuck in my head
"Both Ways" is so, so good. Excited to share this interview with you all because it really expanded my enjoyment of the album. edit: Also the refrain of "Guard Your Gates" reminds me of "Petite Mort" so much haha
Anyway you can give some insight on this song I'm not sure I completely get it, I have an idea but don't want to interpret it wrong
Basically (and I hope I don't butcher this, full quote is in the interview) it touches on social and political hypocrisy and talks about how we have to take responsibility for our failures before we can praise our accomplishments. Like, you can't only identify with the kindness of Christianity without acknowledging the way it oppresses millions of others, can't say "all lives matter" without acknowledging that we need to pay more attention to the lives of minorities and women, etc.
With P!MT, usually they just scan the label and it sits for a few days before making any movement. Once it moves, I usually have it in 2-3 days down here in Florida.
