I'm sure it was a financial decision. I mean, not that Kendrick needs the exposure or money, but he's just continuing to broaden his fan base.
I mean, he probably gets paid really well for these spots, which is more than enough it itself. Doesn't seem baffling to me at all
There's a reason that Kendrick is one of the biggest names in hip hop outside of just the rap community, it's because he is a feature machine... in many genres. Dude has featured on Taylor Swift, Sia, Alicia Keys, Dido, Imagine Dragons, Lonely Island, Robin Thicke, Shwayze, ZZ Ward.... pop features are not a new thing for him
He is one of the biggest rappers out right now lol no one is sitting around putting Frank Ocean on a OneRepublic remix
Also he gets serious coin for these features, gives him more freedom to create the music he wants on his own dime. Plus I wouldn't be shocked if he uses it for charitable means to help out friends and family
Yes I'm aware, but it's not like he was being recruited for corny features either. And true, maybe there's some sort of clause in Kendrick's contract that requires him to do some features. As Steven points out, there are...a lot. Clearly a lot of these he's participating in on his own volition
The fact that he put out an album like tpab means he can do whatever he wants. No one else is talking about the shit he's talking about. So he can do these corny features without sullying his name because he is on a pedastool few artists can reach. No amount of pop features can erase the amount of consciousness he has injected into the genre.
Maybe he liked the song and isn't a super judge mental negative person and just likes to put stuff out and chill with people who like him I think when maroon 5 called him up to do a song his honest response was along the lines of "sure why not"
well THIS is embarrasing at least. Whoever works for YouTube at Maroon 5's label calls him Kendrick LaMar in the video description, furthermore he isn't in this version of the song.
To Pimp A Butterfly is really hard to listen to right now with everything going in. It's crushing me Right now
