I don’t know who Jay finessed exactly at this point, but he did a good job. The NFL got what they wanted — biggest cultural stars of this generation leaning in after the Kaepernick blackball threatened to cut into their fans. On the other hand, artists who truly deserve the platform are starting to get it and underrepresented genres are being highlighted.
My hope is that he uses the platform to make a statement and not just play through his hits. There’s a real opportunity here for Kendrick to show some courage and make a difference.
I totally agree with those points. Just saying that it’s my hope he uses his platform to speak out, not my expectation.
Jay basically said, hey let me be the black face and provide cover for all that, and with his class interests being the same as NFL owners they agreed.
I’m excited in the sense that i never liked drake and love a lot of Kendrick music and think this should give us some more fun moments. But I think Kendrick let himself off the political hook a while ago (to the extent he was ever on it - he was never actually as radical a presence as he got credit for to begin with), and I fully expect American culture to fold into spectacle for American interests.
As fun as the beef was I do hate how Kendrick is basically just becoming “the guy that disses Drake” now. Everyone reads into everything he does now as some big next move in the beef… granted, he leans into it for sure, but I really hope he starts moving on from it now
Torn between agreeing with you and wanting to see Drake get called a pedophile at one of the biggest annual US events on live TV
If that’s what people think of the guy with the 2nd biggest grossing hip hop tour of all time, multi platinum selling albums, and big hits BEFORE their beef… then they aren’t serious people tbh
it's entertaining to me that so many Drake stans think that Kendrick is "leaning in" to this beef, when he's done about as little as one possibly could to promote a contender for the literal biggest song of the year.
He did a video for Not Like Us bc he wanted to. Did you see how much genuine fun he had with that shit? The whole Pop Out show? The man's an entertainer too, he's hardly leaned in other than (rightly) seizing the moment with one of the biggest songs of the year.
It's an especially funny position when you consider the literal constant posting and subs and streamer "rumors" from the other guy.
Like Kendrick probably would’ve brought Wayne out but hilarious that folks think Lil Wayne should’ve been the main choice lol. He’s awful live
look, I enjoy Lil' Wayne for the most part, especially his older stuff, but I don't need to see him go out and pretend to play a guitar for 30 minutes
