Keem's best songs are the ones with Kendrick on. I'm sure there's a reason why, I just can't think for the life of me what it is...
it has a few bangers but it's not on the level of any of the previous records. his lyrics and persona are trending in some pretty annoying directions if it's anything to go by.
It's fine but it's not an album I go back to, which I never really thought I'd say about a Kendrick album. Kodak Black being on it also turns me off from ever really wanting to listen to it much, despite Kendrick trying to make a "point" having him on it.
Absolutely less bangers and the lyrical content is definitely focused more inwardly than outward. I feel like it was an album he made purely for himself, if that makes sense, and I respect that more than him trying to fit others’ expectations. It’s messy and convoluted but it’s also an album that’s fearlessly confronting his own faults. I dunno. I think the negative aspects almost build on its power as a singular piece of art.
It’s not a bad record at all but I have no real desire to go back to it, same with Damn….its funny, if someone asks me about my favorite current rappers I’d say Kendrick but I haven’t really loved any projects of his in virtually a decade
It has some really high highs and I consider it a good album but overall it doesn't compare to GKMC, TPAB, or DAMN. Those albums are incredible from front to back. This is not.
as time has passed, i think i've only come back to this twice. part of that is just generally being too busy to sit down with an album for 80 minutes and have it and its musical/lyrical content be my sole focus. the other part of it is that there are elements here that on paper i really like, but never really go all the way to surprise me the same way his other records do. not bad, but not amazing either.
Honestly reach for this more than his other projects at this point. Very good and interesting record.
It’s far from a mess as he’s clearly telling a story, but it’s still 6th best album (I’m including Untitled Unmastered in that)
