This album prompted me to run through his discography, which I haven't done in forever. Forgot about some of the loosies I absolutely love. "Cartoons & Cereal" is still one of my favorite songs of his. "I Hate You" is so good too with that Sigur Rós sample.
The more time spent with this, I just really commend Kendrick's ability to be completely vulnerable in every single track, even with really challenging topics.
I haven't given this enough proper, full listens in one sitting because I've been so busy, but man, all of my initial feelings of being underwhelmed are certainly gone. This is pretty damn special, and revelatory for the genre.
Rinsed this for the second time on my morning run and it's good but I don't know if I think it's great. It's kinda giving musical theatre.
My current biking playlist goes back and forth from heavier music to hip hop, been doing a lot of early Jay z then like, Flatliners, Wilhelm scram, etc. Next up is rotating on the Kendrick albums, so that's good to hear!
You know what I hate? The joy you get when the beat for Silent Hill starts and then you remember Kodak is on it. UUUUUUGGGGGHHHHHHH.
Seems like Thundercat did bass on Mother I Sober based off his IG story of him in the studio playing and recording to it
I've sat with this long enough to feel pretty strongly that it is a great album. It's not flawless -- there are some songs and moments I could do without -- but it's really, really good.
Agreed....listening over time and with the lyrics in front of me definitely gives an added edge...and while there may be some skippable moments still one of my tops of the year for sure
I think as other posters have pointed out I think it helps a lot to listen to this as two separate albums
if an album requires you to think of it differently than the album is actually presented, that’s on the artist not the listener
