i take it as him telling his peers to stop using that word unless they’re also okay with white people using the n word
It’s about those, including Kendrick at points in his life, who would use the f-slur while condemning non-Black people who use the n-word.
because I’m bored yeah I suggest checking out blxst no love lost(deluxe) version and if you are worried it’s a super quick album I think it maybe clocks in at 30 minutes or something. Some highlights are:
Been through this three times today. What a gift. Pretty sure I only comprehend 20% of it but the ability he has to roller coaster through so many sensitive topics in one release is astounding.
Challenging and dense record but I really enjoyed it. Definitely an album I am only listening to on headphones/alone tho, would not be fair to expose anyone to stuff like We Cry Together or Auntie Diaries without a fair warning
I plan on condensing the more hype/new wave leaning stuff into a playlist for when I don’t want to go too much into the deeper stuff/when I’m driving or in public, might only be 5 or 6 songs but it’s doable I think
Listened to the first half before a meeting this morning, Die Hard, Father Time and Rich Spirit are early standouts, especially Father Time. Not feelin We Cry Together haha, but maybe that's the point, I dunno.
After "Mother I Sober" I think I have a better grasp at his intent having Kodak on the album, I just don't agree with it/think it sucks. But I think the depth he approaches the rest of the album with is thoughtful enough that it's not enough for me, personally, to dismiss the album as a whole (although I understand anyone drawing the line at listening to a rapist). Just a really frustrating and harmful decision on Kendrick's part. Kinda undermines some of the toxic masculinity I thought "We Cry Together" was tackling tbh Otherwise, the album is strong, though.
Yeah the sentiment at the end of the song seems to make it clear as to why he has him on the album but like...it's not Kendrick's place to forgive Kodak or to give him a platform, so it's misguided.
This is incredible. Extremely packed with intense lyrics and complex production. Do we have production credits yet? Purple Hearts is my fav. Loved that Ghostface verse
