Auntie is the kinda thing I'd write off if any other artist tried to play that angle but I have to give Kendrick the benefit of the doubt to tackle those view points with more perspective idk That's super jarring to hear but I'm not writing the message as a whole off yet despite that making me go uhh
First listen was really good. Definitely was two different albums, which I enjoyed. A lot of topics were hit, like irthesteve noted...that should def be taken into account when listening.
It’s not clicking with me like his last three have, but that might be because i turned it on immediately after coming home from a destroyer show and the vibes are just too disparate. I’ll keep listening. EDIT: prefer the second half.
Finished the first listen as well, definitely mixed feelings, enjoyed the first half much more but I can see why people might prefer the second half, overall some questionable choices and flawed decisions sandwiched between some of his most powerful work, feels like some of these songs are a mix of the more digestible aspects of DAMN. with the conscious style of TPAB which is really cool but others parts just left me confused/uncomfortable
So first listen, this is great. I do think it might wind up being my least favorite of his albums but that shows how good he is cus this would be the best album for lots of other artists. Still gotta run it back a couple of more times
I'm only 3 songs in so far, already feels like its gonna take a couple plays thru to really process it all.
Listen two and I’m not ready to say for sure but I think this will rank higher for me than DAMN. And I really like that album, I think the production here is more interesting and things are more experimental overall for the most part, we will see how it holds up but the songs that aren’t uncomfortable on here are really really good
