The only group insisting that Kendrick is deep is Kendrick’s fanbase. Nowhere have I said that I “expect” Kendrick to be deep. I enjoy pretty much all of his music.

 

My post was for everyone, which does include you tbh but also includes people with this expectation of a deeper meaning

 

it is more complicated. there has been decades suppression of radical thought by the state only for it to be rebranded as an aesthetic for capitalist commodification. the reason why Kendrick performed was because Jay-Z swooped in on Kaepernick's protest leading to the Roc-Nation deal with the NFL.

I like Kendrick, and I like hearing him rap about social issues through a certain lense, but I think he's a much more gifted storyteller when rapping about personal experiences.
