I mean for these kids, there's probably a nostalgia aspect to this right? - where a lot of their parents were listening to Drake in his prime and now they're "fans" because it's what they grew up with and able to follow his new album cycles? Kind of feels similar to how kids feel about Kanye (before this weekend)...where their golden years are giving them way more leeway for their newer stuff.
I mean yeah I’m sure but they will ride out for any/all of his new stuff. I heard more talk about the Drake/PND album that isn’t even out yet than talk about GNX. There’s probably 5-6 kids in the building that I know are Kendrick fans. One of those “internet isn’t everything” things
i didn't watch the game last night but caught the full performance from some video someone crossposted from Twitter. however my sister texted and said that they had their TV volume all the way up and could barely hear Kendrick's performance, claiming that some news stations lowered the volume super low during halftime. did this happen with anyone else?

I understand the take that Kendrick "played his least interesting stuff" for the halftime show but I think that's a plus. I don't wanna see him wax poetic and be ~deep~ and ~interesting~ I wanna see him have a good time and help us have a good time Was a great performance, not up there with the best performances but one of the better recent ones for sure
The audio quality was poor—can’t deny that. It’s always like that and especially not suited for a rap performance, but it was still fun
There was also a second job of the performance which was "make people wanna go to Kendrick's tour even more" and that very much succeeded, I wanna go badly
Polled my classes. Consensus was the performance was “mid” and Kendrick didn’t play the songs they wanted. I pressed them and they said they didn’t know the songs because they don’t listen to Kendrick like that. A few kids agreed that the messaging was cool but most didn’t get it. They want bangers
I've been going down a rabbit hole checking the view count on Youtube for all the halftime shows in the past 8 years or so. Rounding the numbers, here's the breakdown: Lady Gaga 2017 - 110 million Justin Timberlake 2018 - 36 million Maroon 5 2019 - 22 million J Lo & Shakira 2020 - 320 million The Weeknd 2021 - 68 million Dr Dre 2022 - 326 million Usher 2023 - 32 million Kendrick 2024 - 17 million (so far) Funny that in only 24 hours Kendrick will probably surpass what took Maroon 5 over six years to accumulate. But also pretty wild how the Dr Dre/Snoop and J Lo/Shakira shows blew everyone else out of the water.
