Unpopular take, but I thought the performance was just fine, elevated only by the Not Like Us/Tv Off closing. Impact of Humble/DNA felt lessened by the language censorship, the newer songs felt a bit flat. The final 5 or so minutes was a heatcheck though.
as far as a “performance” it’s not really close to being up there with prince. even as far as televised performances go, he’s been a lot more engaging as a performer in the past that being said hearing those songs at that scale was so sick lol
The combo of the Eagles dominating and that performance made it very hard for me to get to sleep last night haha
Honestly Drake should just take a long ass break from music for a while... Or go back to acting because he ain't never gonna recover from this!!
Like the only thing Drake can do at this point is just come out and say "yeah I am a corny ass bitch and idgaf, ya'll wanna hear some sadboy love songs???" and then never bring it up again and never do dramabait shit in his music again.
Probably the most polarizing half time show in a long time. People are talking either way. Kendrick is a legend to me, one of those figures or artists that seems larger than life.
Idk, Drake could come back tomorrow and sell out an arena tour. His target demo of suburban white girls def still ride for him.
The Pop Out show was the victory lap and all I needed really so this was just worth it for the audacity to do it at the Super Bowl for the whole world to see
There are legitimately people on Twitter believing Kendrick was pandering to republicans by using American flag and Uncle Sam imagery.
The culture war talking points haven't been settled yet - i've also seen plenty of outrage on the right about it being "bad satanic music no one likes"
really? the two times I’ve seen him that’s been very much the demo. maybe the Toronto shows pull a different crowd?
Drake's demo is some of the most insufferable people you'll meet. Just look at his public stans or whatever, the Adin Ross type.
My sister is a former Drake stan who loved the Kendrick performance so he's definitely lost some of that crowd lol
I know it fits the narrative of being a hater better for his fans to all be teenage white kids, but the black and brown (and white) kids that I teach in Philly are all still obsessed with Drake. Guys and girls alike. Kendrick does not have that kind of pull with the youth, outside of Not Like Us being played at every dance/prom for some reason lol. When I talk about Drake not releasing a good album in like 10 years I get the same angry responses I used to get when I said J. Cole was overrated.
