please tell us all your correct takes so we can stop doing insane stuff like *checks notes* discussing a dude's music in his thread on a music forum
He starts off saying “fuck a double entendre I’m here to kill this shit” then proceeds to have his most direct lyrical album. Is that a response to Drake saying Kendrick needing to “bring a quintuple entendre on that shit” during their beef?
This is definitely more of what I want out of Kendrick. Mr Morales kinda lost me Also think Section 80 gets lost in the conversation (maybe bc it's a "mixtape"... maybe bc of the quality that came after) but it has more than a few classic tracks imo.
This is definitely the most straight up "fun" album Kendrick has ever dropped (with no overarching concept or story), and I do really enjoy it a ton in that context. TV Off blew my mind and Squabble Up is gonna be a big hit I do kind of feel like this album is destined to go a little under the radar in broader discussions of his discography just compared to how incredibly artistic all of his other albums are but I acknowledge it's probably way too early to be saying that lol Kendrick is really just the greatest to ever do it at this point. I can't wait to see where this release goes now that we know it exists... and I don't exactly NOT subscribe to the theory that there's more...
I wasn’t a fan of Mr Morales. I hadn’t enjoyed an album from Kendrick since DAMN in 2017, so it was approaching a decade since I’d actually liked a full project from him lol. I’d kind of tuned out a bit tbh until the beef with Drake, Kendrick is painfully overrated imo. This album is really fun though, can see myself listening to this a fair amount however, nothing here reaches the heights of 6:16 In LA for me
I'm not sure if this has been said in here already but the fact that he could have easily put Not Like Us on here and had it fit in perfectly (probably Euphoria too) but chose not to speaks volumes
That's what I thought of too! There are a few references to the beef scattered throughout the record.
Didn’t get to this til late last night but just finished listen 2 and it’s great. First and last song are prob my favorites on first listen but not much missed for me either. Even peakaboo is made by the back and forth at the end.
there are a couple Drake sneaks though I think. he says in the heart part 6 that they weren’t watching the ESPY’s which Drake hosted the ESPY’s one year and there is a reference on a song to him saying that you shouldn’t call yourself a god. I feel like the more people dig into this, there will be treasures which is classic kendrick
