TPAB is a dense album to return to, but a masterpiece. A high mark for the genre, and that's coming from a person who shits on people for their hyperbole about hip hop albums regularly. Damn is just a good tape
GKMC is a record most rappers wish they could make. Its a classic for sure. Theyre all good, just different vibes for each of them. I barely return to tpab or uu tho. I still recognize they are great records
I can't imagine thinking GKMC is the weakest, even if you're someone turned off by the unstoppable hype it had the first year it was out. Nearly every song is a highlight until the last two. Sing About Me, Money Trees...not really outclassed by the stuff that came after. TPAB is clearly the best, it's so much more impressive than the others instrumentally and conceptually. But tbh, there are songs on all of his albums (UU included) that are right there with or better than the best tracks on TPAB. Good Kid is for sure a more pleasant listen beginning to end, and not just because it isn't quite as heavy lyrically. Section 80 is fine, but a distant fourth to the other three proper records. So much filler imo imo imo
Fuck Your Ethnicity, Hol' Up, ADHD, Ronald Reagan Era, Spiteful Chant, Rigamortus and HiiPower are all top-tier Kendrick Like, listen to Section 80
Was at Newbury Comics today, and they had a bunch of copies. Tried the reverse order, and I don't get it. Doesn't flow right to me.
I am in the camp of saying Damn. Is better than TPAB simply because of the damn spoken word parts. It was cool like first 5-10 times you hear the album but after that it just drags it down soooo much. I didn’t need the hand holding to get the arc of the album. Does it have some of His best songs ? Hell yeah but as an album I can no longer get down with it as a whole.
Looks like they are releasing the “Collector’s Edition” on clear vinyl. Release date 2/16/18 Lamar,Kendrick - DAMN. COLLECTORS EDITION (clear vinyl)
