People act like his early features never happened. Biggest problem is Cole never got mainstream with his best stuff (Friday Night Lights) so he had to go and dumb it down starting with Born Sinner. That side of Cole blew up and look at where we are.
Cole is the most influential rapper to a lot of young people of color out there, and based on them spilling their hearts out to me about how much he means to them, I'm gonna continue to side eye white dudes who call him trash. Might not listen to him or seek out his music, can't deny his positive influence tho.
^ pretty much this I don't feel one way or another about Cole. I've listened to his stuff and it never really grabbed me, but I never thought it was complete garbage either. At least he's not another XXX or Kodak.
Yeah, there's way worse dudes out there garnering attention and shitty fans who abuse women or are super problematic and harmful that kids look at and make excuses for. Cole has some corny lines
I've never been the biggest J Cole fan, but I was pretty into Forest Hills Drive for a while and he put on a good show when I saw him. Never really understood the hate he gets, he has some corny lines but he has some good ones too.
I feel like it's just cool to hate Cole now. I'm not a fan, but there are far worse rappers in the game.
J Cole is just boring to me, I'd rather listen to someone bad and interesting than someone boring who is good at what he does I feel we've had this convo like every five months
I've listened to all of J Cole's albums at least 4 times each and can't name more than maybe two songs
I'd say Cole for me is the epitome of "don't care to listen to his stuff but he can keep doing what he's doing". There's def way worse people out there so if people want to enjoy the fuck outta Cole I'm not gonna rain on their parade. And honestly pretty much no matter who the artist, in a concert setting can be pretty hype. Like I'm not a huge fan of Travis Scott but fuck if I deny that he was super hype at the Kendrick concert I was at.
this could be said for most artists though. love kdot, but if he rode a bird on stage, i'd be even more into him too.
Saw him right before Cole World when it was mostly Friday Night Lights/Warm Up stuff and it was really fun
Still pissed that Kung FU Kenny is rolling through So Cal when I can't hack spending $100-$200 in a single night. Damn.
I respect Cole for making that safe haven for single mothers. He's kind of bland, but you could certainly do worse.
