Arrived today. Put it on the turntable this evening when we had some guests over and it sounded really good. Looking forward to getting a closer listen in tomorrow.
How a preorder should be! (P.S., I haven't forgotten that I'm supposed to send you that record. Hoping to make it to the post office this week to mail it out.)
“Perennials” just absolutely guts me every time I hear it. Yates writes about grief in a more emotionally tangible way than any other folk songwriter I can think of.
Something about the guitar and overall stormy/swampy summer night vibe of "The Great Resolution" reminds me very much of Bon Iver's "Perth," and I can't think of higher praise than that. An amazing song.
This album is great. I love the guitar tones he has going on. Kind of reminiscent of Ryan Adams self titled/prisoner era.
Want to bump this thread because (1) it’s about to be prime Yates season and (2) a songwriter friend of his named Brian Dunne just put out an absolutely fantastic new record. It’s a lot brighter, reminds me of Butch Walker at times. I made a thread about it! Brian Dunne - Clams Casino (Sept 5, 2025) • forum.chorus.fm
Checking this out today! Also, been circling back on Total Cinema big time as it starts to cool down and turn toward fall. Ken seems to insist on putting his records out in the spring, but they are total autumn vibes for me.
