This album is......a dud. Don’t think I cared for a single track on this, and I loved SSS

 

Well I guess it was good until it wasn't

Damn, this went completely under my radar. Had no idea she had a new record on the way. Was just listening to SSS literally yesterday too

 

damn, I hope I like it more than that

 

yeah this is kinda boring tbh
has none of the fun stuff that made SweetSexySavage so special

 

I'm wondering if she just didn't have access to as good producers this time around or what. Some of the beats just occupy this middle ground in tempo and groove, and therefore don't really go anywhere or offer any particular emotion. I hear some of these tracks and I'm just like "eh, nothing is going on here"

 

Moodier is fine, but the songs done support the vibe, they are dull and lack any sort of variation from track to track. Vibe alone can't carry an album.

 

I guess probably most of us in here really liked that sugary sweet vibe she had on SSS, and was expecting another variation on that, whereas your preferred vibe is the opposite. IMO though, nothing on this comes close to "Keep On" or "Piece of Mind"

 

“Hate the Club” is amazing

 

Yeah, I think this album is great. Haven't been a fan of her previous work, but it really feels like she's tapped into a special vein here.

 

this was the standout on my first listen today.

 

Interesting that so many people in here are down on this. I don't really love any of her projects in full but they've always got strong high points and this seems on par with the rest.

Came around to this a lot more on second listen. That Stereogum piece is very convincing imo.
