It leaked. I'm about halfway through and so far it's... pretty average. Some bops. Some okay ballads. Best thing I can say is that she sounds great and some of the production choices are cool. I love Katy but I'm kind of hoping this gets panned so she'll wake up and try harder next time. Edit: Okay Pendulum is genuinely great. Wish more of the album had the energy.
Not the qween of lyrical cliches telling me shes karate chopping them. I know people made fun of her for calling it purposeful pop and then releasing Bon Appetit, but I can see where she's coming from in the context of her catalog. I haven't finished it yet but many of the songs seem personally empowering for her, even tho they're shallow lyrically. I do think her vocals sound nice tho.
Save As Draft is so dramatic, like just the long drawn out way she says "... and I save as draft" at the end made me lol, but at the same time I was like YAS GURL DON'T HIT SEND IT IS ALWAYS A MISTAKE
Just started listening. The first song I really like, the second one not so much. EDIT: Oh god, the part in Hey Hey Hey when she whispers "you fucking love it" made me cringe.
lol this doesn't have an album thread, hahaha most of this was good. lyrics are meh. i like the music overall. this is the first kp album i could get through the whole way through without turning it off. i was expecting that because i like the overall sound. it sounds a bit more indie pop/dark pop than her previous stuff, if you get what i mean
I agree. I felt like she was pretty vulnerable even tho the lyrics were corny and I liked the dark and moody vibe of the album. Def liked it more than Prism
Katy Perry is livestreaming her entire weekend to promote her new album Smh she's doing way, way too much
Kinda? Id say its more chilled out. It's not the signature bubblegum pop dance songs she's known for. A bit more dark and moody. she seems to be exploring some 101 women's studies empowerment. A lot of ppl find it boring lol, but I like it! The production is good and her vocals are the best she's sounded. I listened to her first album again after Witness and the difference in vocals is staggering lol. She has her trademark cliche/shallow lyrics but I think she's at her most vulnerable. I think she's trying to figure out where to take her career next and is a bit confused and lost which it reflects. I'd put it behind one of the boys and teenage dream but above prism. If you have lots of stuff on ur list to listen to i wouldn't prioritize this, but I still enjoyed it.
That's a good explanation, thanks. Yeah I'll get around to this eventually, still curious to hear it.
Katy Perry's 'Witness' Album Heading for No. 1 Debut on Billboard 200 Chart Estimating 200-225,000 units. That's more than I was expecting, to be honest.
We live in a post Anti and Lemonade world where you don't necessarily need singles Katy may be a flop but for different reasons
Yeah but people seemed to like those albums critically. I guess idk how Witness is being received critically but the singles were received so poorly and I feel her image is so negative this era I thought it would do worse. And ok people made fun of her for the live stream thing, but it turned out to be interesting af imo. The dinner parties were all pretty good and Amanda Seales worked it with her wisdom
Lmao when Katy was concerned that James corden would anger The Wanted fans and he was like well I'll meet all seven of them in the parking lot. This stream is what we needed but don't deserve
Livestream didn't bother me, I guess it is a "watch it if you want / are a superfan / have time on your hands or just ignore it instead of mocking her and her fanbase" kind of thing to me. I found it to be such a brave tho unusual experience from Katy, I wish I had more time to follow it but I saw the dinner videos and they were all great.
The dinners have been surprisingly interesting, and so have the interviews and therapy session. I didn't anticipate watching this much, but it's a really relaxing thing to put on in the background. I especially liked the guitar lesson with Kacey Musgraves. The album's also grown on me, but idk if I see a hit coming out of this era.
The livestream reminds of when MTV would have the 24 Hour broadcasts with "Human Giant" or Foo Fighters, where it turns into pure shenanigans. Lots of fun. The album - eh. Mostly poor lyrics, but some solid production. I do hate that most of the Purity Ring-produced tunes are the weakest of the bunch.
