Still got my NYC ticket (18 months later!) and it doesn’t look like they’re allowing refunds. Does someone want to buy it from me?
She finally announced her Boston date; December 5th at Brighton Music Hall. Snagged a ticket and will decide if I’m comfortable going as it gets closer. Fingers crossed.
Oh boy uhhhhh I think I'mma relate to that one an extreme amount. Cannot imagine being able to talk into a microphone about that stuff tho, good for Katie And Julien and Ruston features
It’d be cool to hear her with work Julien or Ruston musically in the future as well as a fan of all 3 of those artists.
Merry Christmas Mary Jane is finally on streaming services! One of my favorite songs this time of year
she's been playing this in her live shows for years it seems like. good to finally hear it recorded. i'm ready for a new album!
My thought after a few listens to Mantras is the same as my initial impression to Expectations: If this doesn’t end up at the top of my favorite albums of the year list, then it will have been a damn good music year.
I don't usually request advances anymore, just because I don't have anywhere near the time to write about music that I used to. Had to make an exception for this one, though.
How are you feeling about the singles compared to the rest of the songs? I thought the Expectations singles were stronger. Also I have an extra ticket to her Philly show on May 11 if by chance you're 400+ miles away from where you live that day.
What were the singles from Expectations again? "Loving Her" and "Out of the Blue"? "Wishful Thinking maybe? I really like the singles, but I'm kind of surprised they went with "Blood Related." It feels like this really nice, quiet moment in the middle of the album, but there are definitely a lot showier moments, here. One of which is "White Lies," which I think is fantastic, but is also kind of the only song of its type here. There's not a lot with that kind of political edge; I'd say it's a more personal, reflective album on the whole. But, to answer your question, the clear standout on my first listen was "Jealous of the Boys," and then each listen since then has had a different song or two that really stuck out to me, so it feels like an extremely strong album with excellent pacing and a lot of different types of songs. And thanks for the concert offer! I will probably not be anywhere near Philly, but hey, you never know!
