As well, her song with Donovan Woods “She waits for to come back down” from his album “Without People” is supposed to be our September 25 I think. Clip is on his Twitter Donovan Woods (@DonovanWoods) on Twitter Looking forward to both songs.
I’ve been saying since last October that it would probably be my album of the year, and I still feel that way. So barring a super strong showing from, like, Bruce, Dawes, or Stapleton, she’s got this in the bag for me. What are your other contenders? I do wonder if this album would have gotten a little more attention if it hadn’t released so close to the start of the pandemic. It’s just odd to me that I’ve seen virtually no coverage for it anywhere.
Yeah I really hope she gets the exposure she deserves. She has one of the best voices in music right now. If not THE best. Couldn't even really rank them right now but this is the stuff I really love from this year. Fleet Foxes - Shore Katie Pruitt - Expectations Jason Isbell - Reunions Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher Hum - Inlet Taylor Swift - folklore Perfume Genius - Set My Heart On Fire Immediately Fiona Apple - Fetch The Bolt Cutters Gordi - Our Two Skins Owen - The Avalanche Probably forgetting some and Two big releases coming for me tomorrow that could possibly in that discussion. Not as much stuff I really LOVE so far compared to last year.
Yeah, her voice just sells it right away. I can't imagine it wouldn't for most people, honestly. I need to spend more time with that Fleet Foxes record. Wasn't feeling it the first few times through, but I also was not in the right mood for it. I've been so much more enthusiastic about new music this year than I was last year. I think maybe 3-4 of my top 10 last year would make the top 10 I have right now.
Yeah, granted I haven’t listened to a ton of new releases this year, but this is the 2020 album I’ve been coming back to the most. I love it, thanks Craig! Also, I reconnected with a guy from my college a cappella group after Katie reposted his cover of “Expectations” on her Instagram story. So that was pretty cool lol
Ahh okay, awesome. I wasn't crazy about any of the singles that will be on the new album at first but I've come to love all of them. Especially "Grew Apart".
Great song. There's not that many white musicians making protest music that feels vital. Top of my mind is Jason Isbell, Eric Church, that one Tyler Childers tune... you've got to come at it from a different direction as a songwriter and communicator, and the way she's able to do it on here is really impressive.
Thanks for reminding me of this. Listened a couple times daily the first couple weeks it was out and completely forgot about it. It’s hitting the spot right now and definitely one of my favs this year.
