I don’t really know who this singer songwriter is, but I stumbled upon this sparse indie folk record today and I think a lot of folks would be into her mix of quiet chimes and emotional whispered vocals. There’s a liminality to it but it’s rough, like a ghost digging her fingernails into you. Her 2015 debut was Scotland’s album of the year and this was recorded in an old converted schoolhouse. I’ve only gone through once, but the lyrics seem to circle around dealing with abusive relationships, both taking on the perspective of living in one (“until the truth of you”) and supporting someone else who is going through one (“flesh and blood”). It’s hushed and often feral, yet left me feeling oddly comforted. A special record. RIYL: Julien Baker, Cate Le Bon, Grouper
