I gotta disagree with you @sophos34. If I worked with another person to create my artistic vision for my show, I would expect that the end product is mine. Honestly there are probably contracts to that effect with something as large as this. If someone produced a song with Ariana Grande and then made a song that was 90% the same thing for another artist, does Ari have the right to be angry? If Murakami designs cover art for someone that looks 90% the same as the Kids See Ghosts art, do Kanye and Cudi have a right to be angry? Even IF Es designed this show, I think there is plenty to be angry about.
I know it’s a diffeeent conversation right now but man Kid Cudi was so good live. His happiness made the night even better. I love this man.
One last thing. It's pretty insulting to assume that Es Devlin designed Lorde's Coachella set, and headlining tour, all by herself. I would imagine that Lorde had a TON to do with her own stage show
Also traditionally Lorde hasn't really been messy or started drama and Kanye is totally capable of giving improper credit Or it could be a misunderstanding
It's definitely similar to the Lorde setup, though I don't personally think you can "own" a design like that. It also seems like a relatively standard escalation from his Pablo stage set.
Yea that seems more like the set designer Lorde worked with should have been crystal clear that he was gonna use it for future things, and if that wasn't the case then that sucks. Like it might not TECHNICALLY be disallowed I guess depending on how the contract was made up or some shit but that's still seems really shitty for Lorde. But whatever, Lorde is creative enough to be able to bounce from that while Kanye can keep going around and taking previously used set designs if he wants.
The first thought I had when I saw the clips was that it looked identical to Lorde's stage. Theft or not, it looks cool.
I remember tuning into the Coachella stream just in time to catch Lorde performing Ribs in that glass box. That performance completely reframed my opinion of her work and turned her into my favorite pop musician. Team Lorde on this one Edit: also after this year just team anti-Kanye
Ghost Town is such a fucking good song and I've rewatched the performance of it twice today Also I'm actually pretty happy he pushed Yandhi (not that it will be called that when it actually comes out) back, he needs to really take his time with the next one
This doesn’t look good for anyone. Lorde for speaking out of turn, Ye for clearly copying a stage design again, and Es for continuing to design the same work, which was also apparently used in a play before she used it. All of them should shut up at this point. Edit: except for lorde she is wonderful and can do what she wants.
Or it really isn’t that serious and there’s zero reason to cry about it. If there’s anyone who can do what they want it’s definitely Es lol.
I mean. This seems like you just look at the contract the stage designer and Lorde signed. Does it say anything about exclusivity or that the design is all or partly property of Lorde? If not, tough shit. If so, you sue. Thats what those contracts are for lol
