I see Yeezys constantly at my local mall, and when there was a TLOP popup store nearby my friend sent me pictures and the line was unbelievable. Most people I know talk about and respect his music but that’s anecdotal. I do think high school aged kids aren’t as into his music, but as a celebrity or icon he has pull and recognition that outrank his sales numbers.
I’ve had more interactions with people outside of my traditional music circles that prefer TLOP and Ye more than any of Kanye’s previous work. It’s odd to me (even though I love both).
To discuss job opportunities for former convicts and jobs in Chicago. I expect a whacky quote to come from this meeting.
Man, I would have been so psyched about that just 3 years ago. Maybe even just one year ago. But in this reality, the one we actually live in, this meeting will only stoke their massive egos. Can’t imagine anything productive will come from it. Very willing to be wrong about that though.
Kim K has already shown progress in the review of first time, felonious drug offenses. A huge start. Don’t see why this should be viewed initially as a negative until we see what comes of it. Dude’s been out here studying successful innercity programs for the youth, so I’m sure it’s related.
Do we really need to "wait and see what happens" with a bunch of sexual abusers and apologists meeting under a white-supremacist administration? Trump was just a day or two ago talking about increasing Stop and Frisk. Don't think he's the dude to reach out to about the Inner city.
Kim Kardashian placating Trump's ego long enough that he commutes one sentence every few months isn't prison reform. This meeting is nonsense and any "good" that can come of it will be legitimizing PR for a fascist rapist.
Considering what that family has been able to accomplish so far in the justice system after a couple of meetings, yeah probably
It’s a platform that legally legitimizes the review of every case similar in nature. How is that not any sign of recognizable progress?
Don't get me wrong, it's good that it happened and I'm happy for Alice Johnson and her family. Kim Kardashian did a good thing. But her and Kanye are placing their trust in criminal justice reform in Jared Kushner and Donald Trump. It's little more than celebrity showmanship, because actual criminal justice reform is being pursued by plenty of activists and organizations, activists and organizations fighting with all they are against Trump and Kushner's Republican administration and Republican party. Where are Kim and Kanye's efforts with them? Kanye wore a Kap shirt, has he contributed a fraction of the time, money, effort, or vocal support to Kap's charities, causes, and ideals as he has to Trump's? Why isn't he meeting with Kap, a black man ostracized for standing up for racial justice? Why is he throwing his full weight behind Trump, the famously racist rich authority figure? Because to Kanye, rich authority figures are the goal. He wants to be Trump, Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs, Walt Disney, Elon Musk, etc. This is all crystalized so clearly in what Chance said about Kanye thinking of how people will view him 300 years from now. Kanye is supporting Trump literally because he thinks it gives him more attention, that he'll be remembered for it. Kanye isn't thinking about shit beyond that. He's not in tune with anyone fighting for the causes he professes to care about. If he were, he wouldn't be running around in a MAGA hat and claiming it's a symbol of love or uniting America or whatever. Kanye is a misogynist, rape apologist, alt-right troll who, like almost everyone, is nuanced in that he has held progressive and positive ideals before and fought for them, and I'm sure he still holds some, but the further he entrenches himself with Candace Owens, Donald Trump, and Charlie Kirk, the further his ideals will distort or dissolve and he will become an enemy of meaningful criminal justice reform.
Fair enough, and thank you for giving me a meaningful response. Though I don't know if it was just for show, Kanye was trying to orchestrate a meeting/face-to-face dialogue between Trump, Kaepernick, and himself. Kanye believes his intentions and ideas are good, based in love. Hardly any follow through or assessment of the result of his actions, however. Solely vocal idealism. Kanye's influence would soar through the roof if he continues to convince and keep Trump at his side. Definitely not saying this is a good thing in any regard but strategic and beneficial to Kanye whether or not he still has public approval. Also, Kushner's "personal crusade" within his position is focused solely on prison reform. Why would they bother with activist organizations when Kim and Kanye have the benefit that many don't of going straight to the source, to someone who literally holds the power and influence to change things within the prison system? As I'm processing through this, I'm reaffirming that these meetings are literally the most attention garnering scenarios and ideas Kanye could come up with, (Other than a Kanye v. Taylor political discussion...) so I see how this is comes off as one big PR circle jerk. I'm just holding out for some shed of light, even still, but that's also just my denial processing.
anyone think hes just publicly saying shit to get Trumps grace enough to sit down for dinner and give his piece on prison reform? https://www.google.com/amp/s/apnews.com/amp/9f73efdd0b314ceb9bfcd31ae939e012
Kanye met with Trump during the election - I don't think he would've had any trouble getting a meeting without the last 6 months.
