if anything from this gets praised on pitchfork i'll look down on them even more than i do now which im not sure is even possible after seeing ian cohen's frightened rabbit review from a couple years ago and the recent james blake track write up. bunch of irresponsible jackasses over there who trivialize mental health issues that musicians have for cheap clicks with no regard for the fact people are really out here dying from suicide. no offense @unbornwhiskey

Well, he was calling attention to "the line about how he can't beat his daughter because she might leave for a guy who would beat her some more and treats it like some sort of inconvenience". But it's not like Kanye's advocating for beating his daughter and is upset that he can't do it.

There's a lot of takes in this thread about the last song and I'm not defending how Kanye expresses himself (he says a load of messed up shit across the whole album), but to me the crux of the song is: "Father forgive me, I'm scared of the karma / 'Cause now I see women as something to nurture, not something to conquer." He doesn't want to see his daughter treated poorly by young men and doesn't know what to do about it.

Obviously he's not the most nuanced thinker in the world (the yoga/pilates stuff is particularly stupid), but I think (or rather, I hope) that none of the scenarios/suggestions in this song are meant literally. He's just writing a song about being worried about how the world will treat his daughter, which is a pretty valid concern considering both the messed-up world we live in and the extremely sexualized/narcissistic family environment in which he's bringing up his daughter.

I haven’t read any of this thread except for this set of posts so keep that in mind. However @oldjersey apologized more often and thoroughly than anyone I’ve ever gotten into it with on this site. He’s also been an incredibly nice person to me outside of that so please don’t take his quotes out of context when you weren’t there and don’t know how it all worked out/went down.

Kanye closes his album with a meditation on being the father of a daughter, now scared of karma for how he treated women, and it's less insightful or profound than single signs that have been at the Women's March or tumblr posts that have circulated since 2012.

We should honestly just turn this thread into a discussion of better music that came out today.

everybody check out the natalie prass record, it's like... a real album, in the sense that every track builds on the previous and you feel like you're falling deeper into it as it progresses
