Way more excited to check out the new OPN album than a new Ye album.

Like if I try really really hard and completely remove kanyes antics from my evaluation of the album, this is still a bad record. It has absolutely terrible bars, the songwriting is sloppy and half hearted, the beats are under cooked, the entire scope of the album feels so small and rushed out. Kanye either half asses this or has clearly lost something that made his music so great.

the OPN record is transcendent and much more worthy of everyone's time.

Uh everyone has said that record is sloppy from the jump but we think the songs are good?

Definitely some weird lyrical moments but I like it. It’s just different then I expected that’s for sure.

"Weird lyrical moments" is putting it lightly and frankly downplaying how outright disgusting some of them are

The 7 best songs from tlop are classic tier kanye. Not that that really excuses the degree to which the actual release needed an editor

What is happening with this title/artwork!? The first track is called I Thought About Killing You!? Really?

The whole shit about controlling his future daughters sex life is really creepy

The “hope she’s like Nicki, I’ll make her a monster” line is sick if he didn’t undercut it the rest of the song

People have consistently argued with me about the quality of that album since it was released

because people think its still a good album despite the sloppiness? this isnt hard lol your view on the quality isn't gospel

Idk why you're being antagonistic. I said "some". Peep the first page of this thread for an example, there's explicit discussion about me calling the album sloppy and people arguing back. I'm not saying everyone, and this site does not account for the large portion of the dumbass internet who continues to defend the rollout of that album

Well, at least it's short. I don't hate it per se, but there's nothing here that will compel me to revisit it.

Ghost Town was half interesting to me musically, but it doesn't really take off like it could and the vocals are terrible.

fair enough anyone who thinks that album isnt sloppy is lying to themselves. i think there's a distinct difference between the way that album and this album is put together. say what you want about TLOP rollout and the album itself but i dont think you can argue kanye wasn't fully putting his heart in it and giving a damn. this album feels like he's really half hearting the whole thing.

Lol. Completely apologized publicly for that and PM'ed @mr_november and @supernovagirl about that. Got heated and apologized an hour later.

this whole album never really takes off...

Idk, as big of a Kanye fan as I used to be I don't see myself coming back to this very much, between all of the shit that has happened and the plain fact that this is mediocre.

I haven't heard this one yet. The lyrics are way, way beyond the lowest level of what Ye has put out before, but I still felt that dip during TLOP. I'm in the minority on that one, though.

lyrically TLOP was a step down i would agree but there were still way more redeeming lines than there are here, which there are none. i think the song craft on TLOP is leagues above this though and i think you'll see what i mean when you listen

Yeah, there's no denying that a bunch of songs of TLOP are incredibly well crafted. I just don't buy into all of the deep analysis and genius that many people were so eager to thrown on TLOP. I think Kanye did an amazing job, up until that point, to have each album be so different thematically and atmospherically than his others, and I don't see any of that on TLOP. I find it the beginning of his missteps, which seem to continue on this one.

    I'll listen in about 10.
