I actually don't read a lot of books. I have difficulty finishing them. However I do my research on said thing I'm debating or arguing.

Honestly, I hope the bolded is not the summation of your understanding of US Imperialism cause if that's the case then as I said, you are grossly underestimating its effects on people around the world. Like... grossly... take for instance the era of Imperialism before Vietnam, before Korea, before the Cold War to Colonialism... the scramble for Africa, creating "races," subjugating people for the sole purpose of exploitation. Hell, many of the world's borders today are based on colonial divisions. Those things have a political social and economic impact on the lives of people to this day. That horrendous shit of propping up brutal dicators is a continuation of that policy. It's economic hijacking. It's violence on a massive scale to people who are of no threat to you, other than to deny you the resources and cheap labor this country demands. How is a state supposed to succeed under those conditions, facing those forces?

I hope you do factor these into your data points on why these state fail but also reevaluate on what you mean by a state that "works." Cause American Capitalism relies on all of the above in one form or the other and we still have a drastic wealth gap, shitty health care, poverty, and segregation.

Yeah, but I also know what I’m getting myself into if I sit there and indulge in his Twitter rants.

Then again, given prior album releases, I should’ve known what I was getting into coming into this thread tonight. :) I’ll check back in when the dust settles.

I was just speaking about the US' Cold War policy specifically since that's what we were talking about, I realize my post was a poor summation of even that since I wrote it fairly quickly however. I've studied a lot of what you're talking about in regards to imperialism, I agree with you that its effects are still being felt today.

As far as a state that "works", what I meant by that in regards to Marxism is that the stated goal of that ideology is to ultimately create a classless society. So I was judging the success of communist countries to date in achieving the stated goal of Marxist ideology... I realize I probably didn't state that very well originally. I am not trying to minimize the problems of capitalism or to say that capitalist countries "work" for most or even a lot of the people living in them.

Ima keep it real, the dust is never gonna settle on Kanye. He’s made his bed with his out line antics, at this point you just either ignore what people say and move along with your day or you can go back and forth with them. But even though I’m a fan of his musical works we can’t really blame anyone for being mad at this point.

Since you quoted me hours after the conversation was over, I think it’s fair game I respond to this. I’m going to go point by point and try to be as clear and succinct as I can. But also it’s 130 am, so.
-an appeal to human nature is wholly unconvincing, because I’m not certain there’s such a thing. There’s human behavior, sure, but is that a priori hardwired into us? I don’t think so. And, even if it was, is it still relevant now in a time when we can recreate organs?
-giving near-absolute power to the government has nothing to do with Marxism. There are libertarian socialists in the world (hey what’s up). I addressed this already when I was talking to ruckerpark. The idea in a socialist society (because if we’re talking about governments, we’re talking about socialism. Not communism) is that the government is a democratic one - I’m assuming you’ve heard the phrase dictatorship of the proletariat, which, contrary to how it sounds, has a meaning more akin to a government of the people (dictatorship in this case being literal, not referring to a military dictatorship, or any other authoritarian dictatorship). This is why some figures like Noam Chomsky take issue with Lenin’s state socialist system. But that’s another topic entirely
-your last point is circular. No one ever flew before an airplane wasn’t invented. That doesn’t mean flying is impossible. This is actually a point that Marxism addresses, and I’m going to defer to @Wharf Rat for this one, who gave a good rundown of the problems with USSR and Chinese “communism” in the actual leftist thread:
The original answer was much longer, and you can visit the thread for the full thing, but this is something of an explanation for the reasons why communism might have failed in the 20 century - because it did not happen the way it was intended to. Now, of course, you can dismiss this all as anecdotal and you can continue to say that since it hasn’t happened yet, that means it’s impossible. But that sounds like a pretty dead-end way of thinking and, if you acknowledge capitalism has flaws, I’m not sure why you’d resign yourself to believing we can’t do better - or why we shouldn’t even try. We’ve never reached a point in history before when we actually did have enough resources for everyone on the planet. We never lived through late stage capitalism (see the above quoted comment about the trend of history) before. We never lived through these levels of global wealth inequality (the type which, is redistributed equally, could completely wipe out world poverty). I don’t think communism was probably ever feasible in the past, but, the way we’re going, it seems increasingly so by the day. You’ll need a better argument than “it never happened before so it can never happen,” imo

To everyone else: sorry I derailed your thread. I think this is longer than anything else I’ve ever posted on this site lol

I think you went a bit further than that lol but I do get what you're saying. "Go read a book" to me just comes off as kind of a cop-out because the obvious insinuation is I haven't read *any*, or if I have, I haven't understood them according to you. Just comes off as a overly general comment imo... I really do appreciate the users here who pointed me in the direction of specific things to read/watch because I fully admit I'm not an expert in the are of communism and want to learn more. I realize I came into the thread not as fully informed on the topic as a lot of you are, but that's what discussions should be about, learning from each others' perspectives/knowledge.
