Chance says in the song that Ultralight Beam is the closer to the album yet ya'll will take the line 30 hours as gospel just to scrub some iffy tracks from the album. As if it makes more sense to clarify the tracklist in the middle of the song than take the half second to indicate it explicitly otherwise.
Playing the album right now because of this convo and goddamn I love it so much. I will absolutely never see it as weak or iffy
The moment that I Love Kanye ends and Waves kicks is one of my favorite track switches in a long time
The only song I outright skip is the Freestyle. Not a fan. But I would love if Kanye's next album was his Coloring Book
curious what you meant by this as Chance's arguably largest influence on Coloring Book (and much of his career tbh) was CD/LR Ye do you mean in terms of subject matter? legit curious not trynna bash ya or anything
Haha no worries, it was very vague. I mean thematically. Acid Rap sorta seemed like Chance working out some demons and the majority of Coloring Book finds him triumphant and bombastic. A sort of happy grandiosity, if you will. I kinda would love to hear a happy Kanye album.
Isn't Coloring Book just Chance's College Dropout tho EDIT: I see it wad adressed. EDIT 2: Most Coloring Book backlash is a weird to me. I love it. I understand it's all a matter of taste but most of the criticism aginst it that I have seen is kind of bad.
i fuckin love Coloring Book except for Mixtape. It's one of those rap albums that transcends a lot of ages. Like, I have no problem listening to like half the album with my parents
I like the concept and idea behind Coloring Book, and love what it means as an album for Chance personally, and I don't really know what the criticism is that is out there, but I just simply don't like a lot of the songs. I don't like All We Got, DRAM Sings Special, either Blessings, Mixtape, How Great or Smoke Break. So that's really just my criticism of not liking the songs haha
Yeah everybody in my family loves it too. A lot of the criticism I have read in music media is that the religious themes are off-putting or alienating... those people must not have heard a lot of rap albums. Also yeah I would have left Mixtapes off it.
